one more question - if I am installing a fresh clean load with the paperclip - do i still have to install 2.0.4 and 2.1.4 first? or can I directly go to 2.1.7. I guess you can just update through the os and keep you settings if you are just updating from 2.1.4 to 2.1.7.

and unfortunately, netflix does not want to connect. It gives me cannot connect to network service error. Disney and amazon video seem to work. It seems that there is always a issue to contend with. Any advise?

As box come with Android 5.1.1 probably don't have DRM L1 support.
Use DRM Info to check it.
If DRM info report DRM L1, then don't forget to enable HDCP switch.
If by any rezone use VPN then try Netflix (Android TV) 5.3.1 from apkmirror.
In case of DRM info not report DRM L1 try CFW/ATV at least will get DRM L3 and Netflix mobile app play on SD.

I am not sure what i am supposed to look for - my hardware is bigfish, supported ABI armeabi-v7a, armabi.
sdk lev - 24, under the widevine CDM, HDCP level is unprotected and security level is L3. I did try the earlier netflix build (5.3.1) and it also fails to connect. I can install the latest netflix mobile app and it runs, except the resolution is crap and the remote doesn't work!. Have to run it with a usb keyboard.
The only apps that i am interested to run is netflix, amazon and disney. Please give me a firmware that supports these 3 apps and I will be happy.
Its a kick ass little player for the H.264 format and because of that i have a few of them but I am finding out like stated in this general forum that software support is a challenge. As much as i hate apple products, if android doesn't start to standardize its aps it will melt into the sunset.
Thank you for your suggestions and help!

Your player does not support Widewine L1 and you will do nothing.

Hi,

Looking for help, I have just updated from 2.1.1 -> 2.1.4 - 2.1.7. I can't see how I can now download apps, the store seems to have disappeared?

UPDATE - I have just re-installed the software pack and the store is now there (however my Kodi has gone - I'll have to re-download)

well in the end I was able to run netflix, amazon and disney using latest kodi 18.9 on 2.1.7 firmware. I tried to run the leia 18.9 on the original 5.1.1 and it wouldn't play anything, kept giving me wrapper stopped error. And when i tried to map a SMB, it would see the files but when i tried to play it would give me mount errors. Although they said 5+ compatibility, it sure seems to hit some short falls with this player.
I guess i will not be downgrading for a while.

Hi, all, I'd really appreciate some help:

I have a Q30 and I updated the Firmware 2.1.7. and the additional packeage with Netflix, Disney and Prime. When I start Netflix , an error #1044 appears, and it says, that it can not play the stream. If I select Prime, it also does NOT work and it says, there is something wrong with my HDMI cable.... any  ideas?

Settings/Advance/Display/HDCP switch is check it then power off/on.
Install DRM Info from Google Play then check if HDCP Level is not unprotected.

Thx, pcristi for the quick answer. I did what you wrote:

I switched HDCP switch to "on" and installed DRM Info. After the Reboot, DRM Info stated:

Current HDCP Level: HDCP-1.x

Still, Netflix does not play an content.
