Update:   My tests were with  the official release using kodi that came with the firmware, no wrapper and no addons.  Again, I only have 5.1 DTS sound, so no need to test with the wrapper.

2160p playback does not work very good.  If I do get both picture and sound, they are both bad, skipping, studdering,  audio skipping, etc.  Some 4k movies won't play at all, some with picture only.  Bottom line, out of the box, this unit does not play 4k - YET

All movies  at 1080p with DTS or DD play just fine.

Resolution does not switch automatically, so I have to set the screen resolution each time.  For example, if I play a 2160p movies, but leave the resolution on 1080p, it will not change - meaning it plays at 1080p.  Some 4k movies did play at the lower resolution, while they would not play at 2160p.  Same goes the other way.  If I leave the resolution at 2160p, and play 1080p movies, they are upscaled to 2160p.  They do play fine, but the resolution should fall back to 1080p.

I tried selecting the box in Settings that says "HDMI auto adaptation" under Display settings.  If I check this box, the resolution will drop to 1080p and STAY t here.  If I change the resolution to 2160p, that box is unchecked and the resoltuion will stay at 2160.  Bottom line - the auto adaptation does not work so switching resolutions does not work.

If you are using the official firmware with no wrapper (sound is 5.1) and you are getting good 4k results, I want to hear from you on how this is possible.  I will admit that I only have 5 4k movies to test with, and it is possible that these rips are not good.  There just isn't that much 4k content out there yet.

Please use the wrapper with Kodi for all 4K videos.

Vanilla Kodi will play 4K but performance will be much worse than through HiMedia player. Also, as you've found, auto framerate switching does not work without wrapper.

At the moment, Kodi without wrapper is only really good for 1080p max, 5.1 sound max, and fixed refresh rate.

Hi. I don't understand what you're asking, sorry. Could you please write

Hi there.  Thanks for your help with this in advance.

The issue is that I am unable to play the movies as when i try to play them the following message pops up contenously on the kodi (on the top left side of the screen) "Himediavideoplayer" :(
 This happens when I  start a movie in kodi and the wrapper starts the hi media player instead of it's own player. i have already re-installed 1.0.1 fw and the wrapper but nothing happens.  I have also tried to do the same with 1.0.3 fw but again, nothing happens.  As a last result, i have also tried to download the wrapper and installed the whole thing again but unfortunately it didn't fix the problem. Just to confirm i use smb to browse the movies.
 Can you please confirm what should i do to get the media player to play all the movies that is available through my network by using kodi? Also what settings do i need to set on Nas so it can play the movies without any issues? At the moment I am using external usb HDD  and i start the movies from there (including video, files -simply finding movies and clicking on play) and it looks like this solves the problem temporarily as it is using the hi media player -so it works perfectly this way (wrapper). Is it possible that i might need help to set up my network (216 j synology) as that is causing the problem?
 https://www.dropbox.com/s/sqzzm19qi3ov1s0/2016-06-01%2007.23.04.jpg?dl=0

 Can you please help me with this issue? I am worried that the fault is with my media player and not my network. I did some research online and I couldn't find a solution so i hope you can help me. Thank you.

Is it a password protected Samba share?

Kodi+wrapper doesn#t work with password protected Samba shares unless you follow this guide: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=813.0

This is a PITA.  I have to switch between Wrapper and no Wrapper.  For 4k - wrapper on, and I have to turn it off for 1080p.  With manual resolution settings, this box is no where close to prime time.  I hope for a major firmware update soon that fixes these MAJOR bugs.

If I understand you request is to learn how to use Kodi with external player for 4K video and DVDplayer for less resolution

change in /sdcard/Android/data/org.xbmc.kodi/files/.kodi/userdata/playercorefactory.xml this  lines

Code: [Select]
<!-- Internet streams -- Disabled for now -->
<!--<rule internetstream="true" player="MXPlayerFree" />-->

<rule video="true" videoresolution="540" player="XBMCWrapper">
<rule filename=".*540.*" player="XBMCWrapper"/>
</rule> <rule video="true" videoresolution="720" player="XBMCWrapper">
<rule filename=".*720.*" player="XBMCWrapper"/>
</rule> <rule video="true" videoresolution="1080" player="XBMCWrapper">
<rule filename=".*1080.*" player="XBMCWrapper"/>
</rule>

with this ones

Code: [Select]
<!-- Internet streams -- Disabled for now -->
<!--<rule internetstream="true" player="MXPlayerFree" />-->

<rule video="true" videoresolution="540" player="DVDPlayer">
<rule filename=".*540.*" player="DVDPlayer"/>
</rule> <rule video="true" videoresolution="720" player="DVDPlayer">
<rule filename=".*720.*" player="DVDPlayer"/>
</rule> <rule video="true" videoresolution="1080" player="DVDPlayer">
<rule filename=".*1080.*" player="DVDPlayer"/>
</rule>

BTW keep on mind Kodi have to know your video resolution so files need to be on movie library and scanned, will not work for folder without contend set.

I started over again and updated to the official firmware, not a custom one.  With the wrapper on, I cannot play anything.  I selected a few different 4k movies and the screen goes black, except for a grey bar across the top and in the upper hand corner it says himediaplayer.  it will stay there, doing nothing until I hit esc or return.  I'm then back at the kodi screen and there is a box that says external player in use, click OK when playback is done...or something like that.

With the wrapper off, playback works  but with very poor results for 4k movies - as we already know is a bug.
From reading in this thread, the wrapper calls another video player, but doesn't respond.  Perhaps I'm missing a app or something?

I play movies from my nas via smb share, and yes with password.  Is the smb share password issue still a bug?  If yes, they need to fix this or it is a show stopper!  I will not have shares without passwords and this unit is useless to me if it cannot play my movies from my nas via smb.

Update after more testing:  I confirmed that if the smb share has a user id and password, the himedia player will not work with wrapper installed/enabled.  I launched himediacenter, went to LAN and auto searched for my smb share.  When I click to create a shortcut, it prompted me for the user id and password.  That saved it as a shortcut to my nas.  I then launched kodi with the wrapper enabled and it worked.  It can now see and play the 4k movies.  I still think the PQ still needs attention, but at least it can access my nas via smb with a user id and password.  I rebooted and it still works, so seems like a good work around.

With wrapper off you are using Kodi internal player for 4K. It works but not for higher bitrate files.

Glad you got it working. There is a thread here that details how to get Kodi+wrapper with SMB password protected shares working: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=813.0

Hello, I also have a problem with the wrapper...!

I have installed the wrapper as explained in the first post. When I connect to my Synology NAS via UPNP all movies are played with Kodi's player. When I connect to the NAS with NFS none of the movies are played at all... :-[! So the wrapper appears not to work...

When I open the wrapper again, it says "playercorefactory.xml already exist"...so I assume that the wrapper is correctly installed...

UPDATE:

Found the solution:

1. Connection must be established via SMB.
2. Guest account must be active on the NAS.

Now works fine :D 8)!!

regards, wiwnet

What we really need is for the wrapper to work on NFS.
Please ...  :)

I have installed the wrapper 1.0.1 and it functions perfectly with my kodi films, but as stated in other forums, it doesn't work with stream and IPTV.
I found a new "playercorefactory.xml" that allows to play film with Himedia and streams with kodi.  So I need to change the "playercorefactory.xml" that is released with wrapper 1.0.1 D 05-05, with the new one.
I have this new file but I don't know how to replace it. I searched in several forums and I found that the first step is to enable the view of the hidden files of the Himedia and here is the first problem: I'm not able to find where I can choose to enable the hidden files. I went in file manager and I tried several options but nothing; I went in settings, then in display settings (as suggested in some forums) but again nothing. Is there the possibility to enable the view of hidden files in the Q10 Pro and if yes which is the path to reach it?
Then they suggest to paste this new file in the correct folder (the one that is hidden), but they didn't say how to enable it. I don't know if once pasted, is now possible to start the wrapper and everything is ok, or if I have to enable the new playercorefactory.xml in some way. My fear is that when I click on install playercorefactory, the app will install the older version, the one that comes with the wrapper apk and not the new file.
Thanks for your help

Is it possible someone to post his modified version of Wrapper for Q10/Q5 pro in order to play streams with Kodi?
I've changed it in accordance with this thread:
http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=425.msg6664#msg6664

Unfortunately a lot of channels in IPTV Fusion Simple PVR client are still not working.
Error message: Can't play this link.
