How do i know that kodi plays via wrapper and not by itself ? If the wrapper it's installed correctly shouldn't i have the PQ settings of Q10 pro in a menu somehow?

If you are playing a movie and are using the Kodi player and you press the ok button, it shows you infos about the movie, but the movie keeps on running.

I you press the ok button and the movie pauses, and shows you infos about the movie, you are playing via Wrapper with the Himedia Player.

Just to confirm, after upgrading to this new 1.0.3 version, do I have to manually install the wrapper, or does this firmware have the wrapper installed already?

The wrapper is installed. You need to do nothing.

You can confirm this by running Kodi, finding a video file, pressing remote menu key, and seeing if the 'play using' option is present. If it is then wrapper is installed.

Reinstalling the wrapper won't do any harm, but is unnecessary.

The menu it's only present when i play a movie from my hard drives via kodi. If i play from the add ons i have no PQ settings. Is that right?

I confirmed the wrapper was installed and enabled.  I got no sound and bad PQ.  I tried all kinds of settings, both in the box settings and kodi settings to no avail.  I then uninstalled the wrapper and now sound works perfectly in kodi.  PQ is good too.  4k playback still has issues.

I have a yamaha receiver.

Why does this seem backwards to what everyone else is reporting here - that you must have the wrapper installed to get positive results?

That is correct. The wrapper is only for local (USB/HDD/LAN) files.

This is by design. Most add-ons require internal Kodi player. They wouldn't work otherwise.

Without the wrapper installed you loose 7.1 audio, 3D-ISO, HiMedia PQ settings, and some performance, however Kodi still works well with hardware decoding for most files.

So if you don't need any of the above then you don't need to install the wrapper (or can uninstall it from latest firmware).

Also worth noting that wrapper is only for local files (USB/HDD/LAN), not streaming via Kodi add-ons. Streaming will use Kodi internal player regardless of whether wrapper in installed or not.

If you had wrapper installed and were playing local files it's a puzzle as to why you got no sound and bad PQ. This is indeed the reverse of what should happen. Please post more info about your setup, the files you're trying to play, and where you're playing them from.

the no sound and bad PQ was playback was using 4k DTS mkv files located on my nas, connected to my LAN, which is mapped on my Q10.  I also had sound issues with 11080p DTS movies.  I've been testing a few different firmware options and so  I need to step back and test again with the official release.   Some of my issues were my fault, having the box or kodi settings wrong.  Been trying hdmi raw vs Auto, etc.

I reset the Q10 using the official (recently updated) firmware.  I did not use the custom firmware, as example.   I will test playback of both 1080p and 2160p and hope to get DD, DTS.

My Q10 is connected directly to my Vizio 4k tv, on a port currently supporting 4k@30fps.  I have optic out on my tv that feeds my Yamaha RX A820.  I can't run the hdmi through the yamaha because it is not 4k compatible.   I have 5.1 speakers setup.

I plan to test without the wrapper installed, given I don't need it.   Soon I will have enough money for a new yamaha rx-a750 that supports 4k and true hd 7.1.  I will be getting 2 more speakers.  At that point, i will need the wrapper to get 7.1 and true hd - right?

Yes, unless Android Kodi at that time supports 7.1 audio. Which is unlikely.

Update:   My tests were with  the official release using kodi that came with the firmware, no wrapper and no addons.  Again, I only have 5.1 DTS sound, so no need to test with the wrapper.

2160p playback does not work very good.  If I do get both picture and sound, they are both bad, skipping, studdering,  audio skipping, etc.  Some 4k movies won't play at all, some with picture only.  Bottom line, out of the box, this unit does not play 4k - YET

All movies  at 1080p with DTS or DD play just fine.

Resolution does not switch automatically, so I have to set the screen resolution each time.  For example, if I play a 2160p movies, but leave the resolution on 1080p, it will not change - meaning it plays at 1080p.  Some 4k movies did play at the lower resolution, while they would not play at 2160p.  Same goes the other way.  If I leave the resolution at 2160p, and play 1080p movies, they are upscaled to 2160p.  They do play fine, but the resolution should fall back to 1080p.

I tried selecting the box in Settings that says "HDMI auto adaptation" under Display settings.  If I check this box, the resolution will drop to 1080p and STAY t here.  If I change the resolution to 2160p, that box is unchecked and the resoltuion will stay at 2160.  Bottom line - the auto adaptation does not work so switching resolutions does not work.

If you are using the official firmware with no wrapper (sound is 5.1) and you are getting good 4k results, I want to hear from you on how this is possible.  I will admit that I only have 5 4k movies to test with, and it is possible that these rips are not good.  There just isn't that much 4k content out there yet.

Hi there.  Thanks for your help with this in advance.

The issue is that I am unable to play the movies as when i try to play them the following message pops up contenously on the kodi (on the top left side of the screen) "Himediavideoplayer" :(
This happens when I  start a movie in kodi and the wrapper starts the hi media player instead of it's own player. i have already re-installed 1.0.1 fw and the wrapper but nothing happens.  I have also tried to do the same with 1.0.3 fw but again, nothing happens.  As a last result, i have also tried to download the wrapper and installed the whole thing again but unfortunately it didn't fix the problem. Just to confirm i use smb to browse the movies.
Can you please confirm what should i do to get the media player to play all the movies that is available through my network by using kodi? Also what settings do i need to set on Nas so it can play the movies without any issues? At the moment I am using external usb HDD  and i start the movies from there (including video, files -simply finding movies and clicking on play) and it looks like this solves the problem temporarily as it is using the hi media player -so it works perfectly this way (wrapper). Is it possible that i might need help to set up my network (216 j synology) as that is causing the problem?
 https://www.dropbox.com/s/sqzzm19qi3ov1s0/2016-06-01%2007.23.04.jpg?dl=0

Can you please help me with this issue? I am worried that the fault is with my media player and not my network. I did some research online and I couldn't find a solution so i hope you can help me. Thank you.
