Poster wall by folder
« on: November 13, 2018, 09:41:05 PM »
I have a NAS with all movies on it in folders by Genre. I prefer to browse them by folder but the poster wall shows every last video file all in 1 big mess of screen. I see no way to browse them by folder with all the nice poster images, without using a file explorer app that does not show the images. Is there a better way?

It can be done, but you'll have to add each folder as a separate source in Zidoo Home Theatre.

In Home Theatre:

- Remote menu key then Source.
- Add each folder as a separate source.

Then, when browsing in Home Theatre:

- Press left button and make sure 'All' is selected.
- Go back to poster wall. Press remote menu key.
- Select Filter, then select the source you want.
- Press remote back to get back to the poster wall, where only posters for that source will be displayed.

Wow, what a pain to do something so simple. I have an old WDTV box that blows thing away in terms of ease of use. I bought this as it has 4K support and markets itself as having latest Android and all apps will work just fine bla bla bla. Fact is it's a nerd box that requires way too much technical knowledge and customisation just to make it work like a normal person would want it to. I know no one who wants to alphabetically browse their entire library every time they want to watch a movie. And the important apps don't work because of limited support for "misbehaving" Google Play services. These are way too expensive toys aimed at some nerds who never leave their bedrooms. No way would I recommend to my Mother or a non-techincal friend to buy one of these. At the end of the day it is not about how many cores are in the processor and how many MIPs it is capable of, it's about how usable it is. And so far this thing is a dog.

It is possible to use the file browser to find and play movies if that's the way you prefer the box to work. The older boxes like WDTV tended to be file directory based because they lacked the computing power to manage the database for a proper media library. The way Zidoo Home Theatre works is the same as all other modern products and apps (e.g. Kodi).

If you want to split your library into different sections then adding as separate sources is a good solution and doesn't take too long for something that you will only need to do once.

From the poster wall:

- It is one keypress (left on remote) to access sidebar menu, from which you can filter to favourites, viewing history, recently added, unwatched, TV and other categories.
- It is two key presses (menu then select filter) to access the filter menu where you can filter by source, video type, genre, year, and alter how titles are sorted (title/rating/added date/year/modified date).
- It is two key presses (menu then select search) to access global search where you can search alphabetically your entire library.

This is not difficult or complicated, especially because Zidoo Home Theatre is well designed and presented.

Please list apps that don't work. Google Play Services is unnecessary for a media player and is easily installable if you really want it (more info here: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=3876.0)

I also have this experiences. My thinking stays that this product makes design only for tech people not for humans. Not simples to operates and no good apps are works. Seems only to make sales but not useful tool.

A few very similar posts to this over last few days. So similar that some have been deleted and some new users have been banned.

Zidoo Z9S/Z10 are very simple to operate, much simpler than HiMedia for instance when using as a media player.

The reason being that Zidoo's media browser is light years ahead of HiMedia's. It really is plug and play in that you add a source which it scans for media then adds that media to the library with thumbnail, synopsis. This library is searchable, filterable. etc. The media playback interface is also much more human than competing products, everything is laid out logically and the design is good.

It is also worth noting that Z9S/Z10 use exactly the same media browser/media player interface as X9S/X10, so any criticism/praise for those products is 100% applicable to the new products. There is a massive amount of user feedback available for Zidoo products online, most of it very positive.

Hi....this is my first post to this forum and would like to know where I can obtain more information as possible on navigating my way using it. I have purchased both the X20 and the Z10 from you guys and I am very much pleased with the service and  satisfied with how Zidoo handles scraping but there is no online manuals and if you are not familiar with working inside a movie server environment it can be some what of a learning curve by trail and error.

I owned a movie server before I bought the X20 and Z10 so it wasn't all bad for me. I did a 1:1 copy of my hard drive that I already had my movie .iso folders on it and was most impressed how Zidoo  handled the scrapping and collections of the wall posters. This is why I bought a second unit in the smaller Z10 when it came out. The ones that it didn't scrap was because of how it was being identified, after I fixed that the way IMDB has it, problem solved.

My only problem that I am having now and looking for a fix is with how Zidoo Home Theater handles collections. Some of my collections are grouped under one meta poster and is under that one meta poster as A-B-C, the first one is the first movie year with B & C being the following year releases. I did a 1:1 copy of the hard drive and my original movie server does not treat collections like this. I see each movie meta data separately. Inside the collection, I would like to know how can I get each movie to show it's own meta data poster so I know which movie is being identified. All my movies has .iso and meta files for them but Zidoo is not bringing all the meta files over for certain movies just the .iso file and labeling and grouping them as A-B-C- inside a collection.  Since I have meta data for those movies could I try and copy them again back over to the Z10 and X20 hard drives?  And I am hungry for as much information on these units as possible, any links and guidance would be a huge bonus.      Thanks!!!!

It's a long thread, but the answer to most Zidoo Home Theatre questions can be found here: http://forum.zidoo.tv/index.php?threads/home-theater-2-0-tips-questions-tricks.7436/

You can access comprehensive collection management for the media library by using the Z10 (or X20/Z9S) network interface. Not guaranteeing it will fix everything, but it certainly gives you greater control. Just added to FAQ:

* Easier editing of Zidoo Home Theatre library? Find the IP address of your Z9S/Z10/X20/X20 Pro on your local network (e.g. 192.168.0.33) and access that IP address with :9528 added on a web browser connected to same network (e.g. 192.168.0.33:9528). You'll have access to comprehensive media database management including posters/backdrop/collections.
