Samba access after Windows 10 Updates 1709/1803/1809
« on: November 02, 2017, 07:39:01 PM »
I have just upgraded my Windows 10 machine to 1709 and now I cannot access the samba shares on my Q10 Pro because Microsoft disabled SMB 1.0 access (as it can be seen here) https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/eba9a147-c1de-41b1-99aa-9c65efd45d8f/cant-access-smb-share-after-update-to-1709?forum=win10itpronetworking. We need Samba 2 or even 3 on the TV box. This issue will become increasingly important in time. It is also a security issue that should be avoided by having the TV box use a newer Samba protocol. Can this be done with a change in smb.conf?

I will try the solution described here https://tech.nicolonsky.ch/windows-10-1709-cannot-access-smb2-share-guest-access/.
Setting a password will not work, we still need to do the steps described in the link with the solution. The proper way would be to have the Q10 Pro use a newer Samba protocol.

More information can be found here https://www.reddit.com/r/homelab/comments/77ozwe/samba_access_and_windows_10_1709/?st=j9ivjxec&sh=ae1dab63.

I'm running  Windows 10 Fall Creators Update 1709 for about 2 weeks with not problems to connect to SMB 1.0 server.
Check your window features for SMB1.0 on Windows 10

I checked it, I still have SMB 1 client and server installed. I have just update to FCU 1709 version and I was having issue until I enabled guest access as described in the link https://tech.nicolonsky.ch.

I also have 2 PC's updated to latest Windows 10 on day of release and have had no issues with Samba and network shares with the Q10Pro.

Some have this issue, some do not. One guy actually said he had 2 identical NAS devices, both set up the same way, for redundancy. He was able to access only one of them. One solution would be to make Samba use a newer protocol and also disable guest access.

Microsoft change again Samba features defaults settings for SMB 1.0/CIFS
Windows 10 Spring Creators Update 1803

SMB 1.0/CIFS Server need for get access from box to Windows share.
SMB 1.0/CIFS Client must be enable for access from Windows to box running FW base on Android 5.1.1.

By mistake I wrote a post on the same resolution of the problem and I apologize.

ES Explorer/Kodi/Total Commander/etc account has no permissions/not ask for user&pass.

Try set RejectUnencryptedAccess to false on Powershell:
Code: [Select]
Set-SmbServerConfiguration -RejectUnencryptedAccess 0
Get-SmbServerConfiguration

More info can get Microsoft site.

Thank you for clarification.
My Zidoo x10 can't show this PC under SMB option but ESFile Explorer and VLC can show and play. Why is it happening so?
The problem with ESFile/VLC/MXPlayer is that it is unable to play video smoothly, even the 7.1 atmos audio is downmixed to 2 channel.

strange thing is that I tried yesterday several times but SMB did't list the PCs, only ESExplorer showed. Today, at very first attempt ( after switching on the PCs and Zidoo) SMB scanning detected two PCs (one with win7 and other with win10).

I didn't change any settings, this time no USB devices are connected to media player => why is it happening so?

I afraid that if these 2 PCs got vanished again from the SMB list on the next run.

Next time just try to restart a router to see if this will solve.

Strange, I have tested with this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pzolee.android.localwifispeedtester&hl=en and the result for SMB on the Q10 Pro were both 41Mbit/s fo down and upload. I'm still suspicious to my server laptop's upload speed, but with torrent I can get teh max out of my net: appr. 9MByte/s up/down speed.

So it's not surprise, all videos above 40Mbit/s tends to stutter a lot. Wonder if anyone lese have this kind of problem? I will try NFS, but don't really await much better results...

Futeko: the Forum's engine is horrible, I can't toggle view to insert hyperlink correctly as I could before... Is it maintained anyhow?
