yes it will work as many did it.

Question why would you when a 2.5 inch HDD in an 2.5 => 3.5 adapter will achieve the same goals (silent and cool) at far bigger capacities for the same money. The potential speed advantage offers nothing for a media player.

You will need that same adapter anyway for mounting such SSD.

Thanks  for replying , I took my HD from my Hi media Q10 to test the Zidoo unfortunately it suddenly becomes very noisy when inserted in the zidoo and  not in the  hi media q10 for some reason .
So I thought I’d look for something with no moving parts .

Yeah the Himedia Q10 Pro has an amazing design. It is a top loader where the HDD rests on silencers and the lid padding also mutes sound combined as thermal conductor. Result is very silent and good cooling. Loved it for that and never seen anything near to that with any other player design.

2.5 inch drives are all very silent and an alternative to look at being Internal (with an adapter) or External USB.

I moved my 8Tb HGST HDD from my old Q10 Pro into my new Z1000 Pro.  It does work fine but the drive is much noisier in the Zidoo and also seems to keep being accessed, even when using a NAS or USB HDD for movies.
I have set the drive sleep to 10 minutes in the settings, which seems to work until stopping and starting a movie/tv episode brings it back to life again......
I can see the upside for the silence of an SSD or 2.5" drives but you simply can't get them large enough for the price.

Get a 2.5 inch USB drive at a nice price and just pull out the HDD (and reformat). That is what I did for my music HDD. Using such a 2.5 USB drive directly is a good alternative.

Yes still more expensive than a 3.5 equivalent size but affordable. Much lower in cost than using SSD with almost identical advantages (cool and silent). Seen the price developments one day SSD may become cheaper?

I've not seen larger than 5Tb in 2.5" drives but I may just do that and put my 8Tb in an external USB case.

Using a USB Docking is the most flexible and does not require reformatting.

You can swap it then when desired including using Internal z10. Get one with quick loading handle(s).  ;)

There seem to be quite a few different 2.5" => 3.5" HDD adapters around.  Will the metal ones with screws underneath, or would side screws be better, or even a plastic one perhaps, inside a Z1000 Pro?
A link with photo would be ideal.
Thanks.

Have 2 kinds myself. IcyBox IB-2535 StSt closed box which has an aluminium cooling base plate and a cheaper Orico 1125SS which is full plastic and open on top. Both allow bottom and side mounting for the adapter in any 3.5 inch rack just like a HDD.
The 2.5 inch HDD/SSD residing inside is always bottom fixed. Without using screws for it also that one can be hot swapped if desired. The Orico is then the quickest/easiest.

I do like the IcyBox most as it handles/looks just like a real 3.5 HDD. Both easy to be found with a search.

Thanks a lot.  That all make sense and the Orico is easily found in Australia  :D
I am looking at a 5Tb external and breaking open the case, as you suggested.  They are considerably cheaper than the internal 2.5" drives.
I am wary about opening a Seagate, however.  A 2Tb 3.5" SSHD for my PC just died on me, after 1 week of use  :'(

A way to reduce the warranty risk is using the External USB drive via USB for a month or so untouched.
Electronics mostly fail in that short period or after many years (above all when used heating up).

Followed @Nice Monkey's suggestion here and replaced my rather noisy HGST 7200rpm 8Tb with a 5Tb Seagate 2.5" HDD from an external case and used the Orico HDD conversion rack to fit it to the Z1000 Pro.
It is now virtually silent and I am very happy  8)

The old 8Tb HDD is now in an external USB case (along with quite a few others for plugging into the Zidoo, as required).

BTW for anyone thinking the very cheap "4Tb/8Tb SSD's" from China (found on eBay and other places) are a good idea, they are certainly FAKES!  There is a YouTube of someone opening one up and finding 4 dodgy flash drives wired up together, inside......
