Hello I am thinking of putting a 12 TB HDD to the Dune Pro Vison. Who knows if they will accept this unit or have limitations? Thanks

It should be OK. Up to and including 16TB should work.

I tried to use an internal sata disk of 18 TB (Seagate X18) but was not readable or formattable by Dune (error creating partition) so I had to do a partition of 15,99 TB (GPT) so I am asking how are you using the 18 TB drive that you wrote is OK for DuneHD Pro Vision 4K: smaller partition?
I tried to do partition of 16 TB (GPT) but Aomei Partition Assistant gives error and crash chosing ext4, instead 15,99 TB works: why? Aomei can do bigger partition chosing NTFS but with a partition of 18 TB (the all disk) the drive is not readable by Dune (ask to format it but if you do gives error creating partition).
Is ext4 the best file system for such big disks for DuneHD Pro Vision 4K using SMB to access data from PC?
Is the problem due to the choice of 512 or 4096 byte per sector? Which one is the correct choice?
Thank you.

Dune does not support 4K Logical Sectors only 512 bytes.

Hey, I have the same problem like "campus". HDD - 18 TB (Seagate X18). After formatting on PC Win10 to NTFS 18TB, DUNE PRO 4K PLUS II doesn't read them correctly. So I made a partition (as advised by "campus") a little below 16TB (Dune shows 16200GB) - and Dune works OK. Alas, 2TB is wasted. I think, 16TB must be a NTFS limit for Dune (and nobody knows why; last actualization of Dune system was in year 2020).

at the end I solved this way:
only one partition of size 18 TB but created and formatted (NTFS) by Windows 10 Pro "Disk Management" in this case the dune can read it. If I do the same by the software Aomei dune can not read the disk do not know why. Please try this way and let us know if it works even for you.

android did not really implement NTFS. They just made it work assuming fixed values for multiple variables which just are ignored. Also the 2nd FAT table is never checked for actual consistency.

Hey Campus! Before my last post, I just formatted my HDD - 18 TB (Seagate X18) by Windows 10 Pro "Disk Management" with default allocation unit to the one NTFS partition 18TB. And after copying on hdd same directories and files (on my PC) - Dune did not read them correctly. So I was forced to reduce a capacity by creating 16TB partition, and now all is OK with Dune. But may be problem is with allocation unit, which I left as default? May be I should choise 512K?

default was ok for me: 512 byte per sector and 16 sectors per cluster. What read problems do you have? I am using UGREEN SATA USB 3.0 adapter from amazon 24,99 eur

Hey! After many many trials I found a max partition value tolerated by DUNE Pro 4K Plus II.
It is 16.770.000MB (Dune shows 17,6TB and Win Explorer shows 15,9TB).
All allocations was realized on my PC Win10Pro with NTFS parameter and default allocation unit. Next was tested on my Dune (if partition was to big DUNE did not recognize the disk).
Now, only 396.333MB (0,4TB) is wasted, so I create in this space a second v. small disc partition - 0,4TB.
Campus! Dune Pro 4K Plus II has his own 3.5 disc rack, so I do not need any adapter.

That limit makes a lot of sense to me. It is a 32-bit register counter for 4Kbyte sectors.

please try partition (only one 18 TB) and format by Windows 10 pro "Disk Management" choosing 8K byte for cluster (or allocation unit that is same thing) dimension.
Your dune model is older than mine (Dune HD Pro Vision 4K) but maybe you can get only one partition (18 TB) that the dune can read chosing 8K byte size of cluster. Is your dune firmware updated?
Of course even my Dune has an internal SATA slot. The Ugreen SATA-USB adapter I suggested is for connection of the disk TO THE PC not to the dune.
