Campus, Nice Monkey, thx for your advices, but all tests I realized was without removing my erlier recorded data (about 10,5TB). I was only increasing and decreasing the size of a volume by Win10Pro Disk Management. Copying such big data takes about 1 day, so I don't want to do it now.
I do not know what is my cluster dimension (how to check this?) because I left parameter as default (I assumpted, that the Windows should choise the right size). So thx, but may be I try to test 8K cluster a little bit later.
PS.
My last actualisation is - 201027_1259_r15 (27 october of 2000 year). There is no more.
My PC adapter for 3.5 disc is ICY BOX IB-117-U31 with USB 3.1(gen2) but I think it doesn't matter.

I would be extremely surprised if the cluster size matters.

Hey!
I found unit allocation size of my already formatted disk (Seagate18TB):
Type - NTFS,
Allocation Unit Size - 8192.
Other system possibilities of Allocation Unit Sizes: 4096, 8192 (Default), 16K, 32K, 64K, 128K, 256K, 512K, 1024K, 2048K.
So, chosing size 8K is impossible.

Hallo I have a "Dune HD PRO Vision 4K Solo" with inside (SATA 3.5" internal slot) a Seagate 18 TB X18 and I connect it, to load files, to my Windows 10 Pro notebook PC by SMB (ethernet LAN 1 Gbps). What do you suggest as file system to format the X18 and why? Which is better for files and data reliability and integrity? How (by which software) is better to format the disk? Dune can not format it (it gives error: probably 18 TB is too big for today dune format app. My firmware version is "211224_0317_r17"). Please explain in a detailed techical way. What file system do you adopt? I am using NTFS now but I am wondering if EXT4 or EXT3 can be better (with NTFS some files disappeared in one occasion; this time I solved by Windows Chkdsk that repaired the file system connecting HDD to my PC by USB; but I have to say that I had a problem (previously explained in this forum) even with EXT4).
Thank you very much.

EXT3 has a 32 TByte file limit but EXT4 has not. It is newer and better anyway. So the choice is NTFS or EXT4.

comparison of different file system to format internal SATA HDD (NTFS,EXT4)
« Reply #22 on: February 17, 2022, 01:43:59 PM »
OK the choice is NTFS or EXT4 but please explain the differences between these 2 choices and which software is the best by a Windows 10 Pro notebook PC to format in EXT4 and to access to a EXT4 volume. I am using a Ugreen SATA III-USB 3.0 adapter to connect the 18 TB SATA disk to PC.
Is NTFS implemented in a perfect way (expecially for files integrity) by Dune HD Pro Vision 4K Solo current firmware "211224_0317_r17"?

Hey again. As I once read on Dune pages, only EXT format makes possible connection to hdd filles via WiFi (SAMBA, NFS, UPnP) from for example your PC. But EXT format is dedicated to Linux systems and to read them via your Ugreen adapter in Windows you need install an extra program (driver) e.g - Ext2 File System Driver for Windows. Why? Because Windows system do not like and do not support Linux system ;-)
So, I don't use EXT and WiFi and I am using ICYBOX hdd adapter. It is much quicker method to copy data files.

Hi guys

I am contemplating to buy HDD for my Pro Solo 4K

Is the one below OK?

Western Digital 18TB WD Red Pro NAS Internal Hard Drive HDD - 7200 RPM, SATA 6 Gb/s, CMR, 256 MB Cache, 3.5" - WD181KFGX

The official website mentions low RMP  (ex 4500) but here it is 7200?

Wondering if this is OK. Thank you

It will be OK. Low RPM is just a recommendation, these drives are usually quieter and cheaper.

I noticed something very strange:

My 4TB USB SSD (SanDisk Extreme Pro) cannot be read by the Dune. When I format it with the Dune everything seems fine but as soon as I connect it to a Windows PC and then re-connect it to the Dune it says CAN NOT ACCESS. On Windows i can access those files without a problem.
I have no problem with 2TB USB SSDs. It seems Windows does something to my drive when connecting / initializing it.
I tried different formatting options / file systems. Doesn't help. I would love to make my 4TB drive work for plug and play on the Dune.

Please help! Thanks!
