Upgrading to latest 2.1.4
« on: March 30, 2020, 02:58:22 PM »
Hi,

Two queries:

  • I am currently on 2.0.1 (PFA screenshot) and unclear on how to upgrade to latest 2.1.4 or 2.1.1, after having gone through the following posts: https://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=711.0, https://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=4341.0 and https://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=2096.0. Please guide.
  • The first link above, which is helping with downgrading firmware from 7.x to 5.1. Why do users need such a downgrade

Aside, I purchased my Q10 Pro in May 2017 and got the upgrade from the system UI itself to 2.0.1 fairly timely. Since then, I have checked manually many times for upgrade availability but it always stated that I have the latest version, not sure why! But, now I have registered for receiving firmware update notification via email and will be on latest hopefully, once the above query is resolved. Also, found much useful information in FAQs and other posts. Thanks.

Hi,
1.
Install 2.0.3, next 2.0.4 and finally the latest.

2.
Have no ideia why someone would downgrade, maybe compatibility issues.

Thanks stl, It upgraded like a charm. I am glad that I will be able to upgrade as & when they are released henceforth.

However, while the updates went like a charm, it reset the internal storage. I don't mind this time and I reinstalling and re-configuring all that I need and use. Now, would using UI's upgrade option i.e. providing these update.zip files to it, retain the internal storage - apps and config, et all?

Further, I understand YouTube is not working and for that I can try the AndroidTV version of the app. I would like to share that I tried the SAMBA performance patch (http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=1479.0, also in FAQs post) and Free FTP Server (reference found in FAQs post - networking section) but I can only get 4-6 Mbps in both the interfaces. Not sure what I am doing wrong. Will attempt later when time permits.

Please excuse me for asking a generic question but apart from WOL, what are the other optimizations worth considering with the latest 2.1.4, not just networking related?

If you upgrade via settings menu the user files will be maintained but it could lead to software issues.

You can install the latest YouTube TV app from apkmirror.com:
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/youtube-for-android-tv-android-tv/youtube-for-android-tv-android-tv-2-09-07-release/youtube-for-android-tv-2-09-07-android-apk-download/

The only optimization I apply is the stop button patch:
https://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=1259

You can try a custom firmware that will give a different experience with Android TV, I think for the better:

I also always disable Imprex engine because the image flickers in dark scenes.

Thanks stl. Will try the custom firmware soon.

So, is the general practice among the community is to flash the updates, reinstall apps and reconfigure, every single time an update is released? OR, they root it and use titanium backup for recovery? If so, I shall lookup info on rooting.

Could you share some details - what is it and how to do it?

The common practice is to backup kodi with the backup add-on, install the firmware, reconfigure and restore the Kodi backup. Some people use Titanium.

To disable imprex engine start Himedia Player and set Imprex engine to off (close). This will impact video playing in other apps like YouTube.

Probably, almost certainly, there won't be any more firmware releases for the Q5 and Q10.

Start a video with media center that will open himedia player, press the menu button on the remote, scroll to PQ settings - Imprex engine - off

Is this only for official firmware or custom also?

The custom firmware is developed by the user pcristi and it's based in the official version. There might be fixes and improvements made by him or another user but the Q10Pro is pretty much obsolete.

Thanks for your information. Could you expand as too why this is, and is there a replacement unit or set suggestions to replace my Q10. For me Q10 is probably too Geeky as only use to watch through Kodi, but having other facilities available like hdd, App inclusions etc has been beneficial?

The Q10 Pro was released 4 years ago but the support from Himedia was mediocre so I don't recommend buying Himedia again. While the software you need works and is being updated by the developers, like Kodi, there's no need to buy another box.

Hi . Further to above the pro 10 is now rebooting like a jack in the box. What’s a good alternative to buy to the pro 10 as said for my purposes. The zippo seems strep in price but appears to have a dedicated kodi service, never had a shield, but forums suggest they are primarily gamers boxes. What’s else could I look at, that preforms well etc and would give me 4/5 years as the pro has?
