Essential Q10 Pro & Q5 Pro apps (hints & tips)
« on: January 27, 2018, 03:43:08 PM »
I'm very curious what people are using on their Q5/Q10 Pro. Here is my list (still W.I.P.). Clik on the red name for the external link/Playstore link.
Please add your apps/games in this thread - hopefully there are some hidden treasures out there.

APPS
Archos Video Player (Free/Paid)
After reading this forum post about Archos I tried it and was immediately hooked. It's a very nice replacement for Kodi or Moviebar. The 'leanback' user interface is intuitive.

Smart YouTube TV (Free)
Sure the default YouTube app works fine - but Smart YouTube TV gives add free viewing and I really don't see any difference in quality. Some people experienced some problems with this app.

Perfect Player IPTV (Free/Paid)
If you use IPTV then this is one of the best ways to watch television. You can also use your favorite EPG.
IPTV is also very good, but you must use an external player like MX Player for viewing. Also works with EPG.

Solid Explorer File Manager (Free/Paid)
Simply the best file manager out there. ES File Explorer was my favorite file manager, but with it's intrusive advertising mechanism (in the free version), I don't recommended the free version.

SPMC - Semper Media Center (or Kodi) (Free)
Kodi alternative and considered a lot better then Kodi... but I must say that Kodi 17.6 is matured a lot - so we can finally leave Jarvis behind us :)
Using this patch is essential if you use SPMC or Kodi. And also try these essential Wrapper settings.

Power Menu (Free)
Just a simple power off and restart app. I use the APK and add the icon to the home screen. You don't have to have root for this version.

TuneIn Stream (Free/Paid)
Listen to your favorite radio stations with TuneIn Radio.

TVLauncher (Free/Paid)
Alternative launcher. Demo video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SUzrS7NoQI8

MX Player / MX Player Pro (Free/Paid)
Excellent video player which can be used as a replacement for the HiMedia Player. More information about MX Player in this topic.

Blokada (Free)
Free ad blocker without root! Will remove adds from your apps. And yes, this will also remove the adds from that popular streaming app (T*rr**ium TV)  ;)

Gboard - the Google Keyboard (Free)
I like this keyboard more then the default one.

Phonograph Music Player (Free/Paid)
Very nice looking music player. Unfortunately no NFS support.

Titanium Backup (paid) Thanks (maelor)
Quote
not just to backup but also to "freeze" out unwanted bloatware like Facebook, Moviebar, Skype, ...
You will need ROOT for Titanium Backup, but that's very easy. Check this link. Unpack it, run the /bat file and follow the on-screen instructions (you have to provide the LAN IP).
I then uninstall Netflix, Facebook and Skype and remove the installation files with Solid Explorer from the /system/etc/ directory.

Great list! I go to install the Power Menu.

I also use AirPlay/DLNA Receiver to mirror my tablet and phone.

I am curious which games are doing well on the Q10 / Q5 pro?

I don't use much additional apps on a media player, but I would add:

Total Commander -> a decent file manager, for who used to it on PC. Works on Android a bit differently tho', you need to learn it's logic first, but than can be controlled by even the stock remote.  + SMB plugin-> to reach your network shares and FTP plugin for the fastest file transfers.
Free and no adds!

Poweramp-> one of the best Android music Players. As I have found that from both KODI and HiMedia Music Player the music playback just lacks some quality somehow. Poweramp has much acceptable sound. (I listen music from the analogue RCA outputs on an 2.0 active speaker).

Both (specially Poweramp) would require a mouse/airmouse or a touch-screen mobile controller app for best controllability.

Ookla's Speedtest (free) : so that the whiners who complain EVERY time there is a firmware update that their speed has gone down, can be proved wrong  >:(

Titanium Backup (paid) : not just to backup but also to "freeze" out unwanted bloatware like Facebook, Moviebar, Skype, ...
Super SU (paid) : You will need this to get root access for Titanium

Archos Video Player (Free/Paid)
...  It's a very nice replacement for Kodi or Moviebar.

Sorry but Archos can't play ISO files which makes it useless in my opinion!!!

Solid Explorer File Manager (Free/Paid)
Simply the best file manager out there. Stay away from ES File Explorer with it's intrusive advertising mechanism.

So buy the ES File Explorer Pro version and get rid of the adverts!

First of all, I use Total Commander on all my Androids. Second, I use Swype since I bought a while back. I am using Kodi now, so I am not installing SPMC anymore. I am also using Rocket Player https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrtstudio.AnotherMusicPlayer, ServeStream https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.sourceforge.servestream and that is about it. I used to have a lot more, but I have enough Androids to play with and Q10 Pro is just a TV box.

Hi everyone, i love this thread.

Does anyone know a good timer app so the Q10 pro could shut down at a specific time?

Does anyone have experience with this? Thanks fellow himedians

Tasker can do this - it's a very 'complex' but powerful app. Maybe a bit overkill for only shut down at a specific time .

Try HiMedia implementation of this. Go to Settings/About/Timed shutdown/add shutdown task.

I would love to have sort of a timeout option like my smart TV has. If I do not press anything on the remote for 4 hours, it shuts itself down. Not a big thing, since it does not use that much current and there were very few moments when I forgot to shut it down.
