Q5-adding second USB changed drive locations in Kodi
« on: September 10, 2015, 08:16:46 AM »
Loving my Q5 and had added most of my DVD collection to a USB drive connected to the USB 3.0 port. Kodi all setup with Smart Playlists (to keep Kids & Chick Flicks away from main Movie List) and working well.

It worked so well I thought I might add a second USB drive (there's 3 USB ports after all) and add my BluRays and avoid having any media cases & disks at all. It seemed to make sense to move the DVD USB drive to a USB 2.0 port and plug the BluRay USB into the USB 3.0 port (given the faster data throughout).

However, although I've tried to amend the Source & Playlist settings from sdb1 to sdc1 as per the new location (and I can browse to these in Kodi File Manager), Kodi fails to either find the old movies nor can I add new playlists at the new locations?

Any ideas?

Couldn't find anything on the Kodi Forum and thought it may be Android or Q5 related?

Steve.

Wasn't sure if anyone was interested with the lack of replies.

I ultimately had to do a 'Content Refresh' and re-checked the storage locations for 3 processes:-
 - Ensure the Source locations were correctly pointed at sdc1 (which is the usb port the drive was moved to
 - Ensure each Smart Playlist was correctly set to sdc1 (do it for each playlist, Movies, Disney, Chick Flicks, etc)
 - Ensure the Video 'Content' location was also correctly pointed at sdc1 for each folder containing the above Movie Groups.
I also changed the 'Content' type to "NONE" and then changed it back to "MOVIES" in order to force Kodi to do a refresh of the library Contents.

The last stage was something I finally stumbled over in some of the Kodi Forums and assume is an important step.

Now working.....but about to download the new Q5 Firmware and give that a bash :-)

Hi, i have the same problem if i put a usb with the device unpowered, on q10 boot, drives names are changed, i don't know if there is a way to fix the drive names, to avoid that kodi don't find the drives in the same order as first  scan, also my internal drive is on mnt/usb, but  is a sata drive.
Mine  is a q10.
Thanks a lot

I agree Marcel,

It would be useful to set drive letter assignment permanently within the Device OS so that software always referred to the device via the same letter, regardless of you adding or removing other USB connections.

I've just resorted to ensuring that I leave two USB drives connected when I want to use for viewing to ensure the KODI library works correctly!

This may be an Android problem requiring a fix at OS level but I will discuss it with Himedia tomorrow.

This has been forwarded to Himedia's technical team. They will look at it and hopefully produce a fix.
