Newbie: can't access my server
« on: January 24, 2017, 11:41:49 PM »
Hi,

I'm running a Q10 Pro on firmware 5.1.1. (according to the info panel). When trying to acces an external harddisk connected to my Mac OS Server, I always get the 'error new server' message. Where I know that all details (IP, directory, userid and password) are correct because I use those for other applications running on PC's connected to that same server.

What am I doing wrong.

I am posting this because it seems that everybody who has similar problems get advises to go back to 5.1. Where these shares would work. For me it doesn't....

Scanning for servers also doesn't provide any result (no server found).

I hope somebody can help me in the right direction? Thanks already for that ;-)

Could be a network settings issue.
Have you allocated the Q10  a fixed IP address?  This can often help.
Have you turned on Samba in network sharing?  You should then be able to find the Q10 on your network (under Android*** ).
Can you see other connections on the network?
Go to MediaCenter and click on LAN auto-search?  Do you find anything?

I'm not familiar with MacOS Server, but make sure that the shares are shared using the SMB protocol and that guest access is enabled.

Allocating a fixed IP to the server and navigating to that IP (rather than using the autosearch tool on Q10 Pro) may also help.

Thank you both for the swift response  :)

Have checked all remarks:

- Samba is enabled
- LAN autosearch shows nothing....
- Guest access to server is allowed
- Disks are shared with guest access allowed

Still the "new server error".

I hope to receive more ideas  ;)

Thanks.

What about allocating a fixed IP to the server? If you do that and try to access the server by IP what message do you get?

Can you access the server using Kodi instead of Himediaplayer?

Hi futeko, thanks for looking at it.

IP address isn't changing (has been and always is the same number). That ip address is used by me when trying to create the share.
So I enter all fields (ip, folder, userid, passowrd and sharename). Again, all these details are the same details I use for accessing (successfully) my server and file shares from the other computers in my LAN.

I didn't know that you can also access the server from Kodi? Can you give me some direction about where and how?

Cheers.

Additional info: I have tried to look up the server when using ESP Pro. In there my server shows up, but again when accessing (userid/pw) I get the same error. Stressed again that these details are correct.
My Mac server has all the correct share details (read/write for everyone and guest, etc.).
So...........  :o :-\ :'(

Issue solved  ;D :D

For other newbies and Mac Osx users a short description of the things I have done:
  • First I have properly configured the wrapper.app in my apps (sorry, should have done that already of course, but never realised that that was something you also had to do ......)
  • Then I suddenly saw that when a Tuxera NTFS disk is connected through USB to my Mac server it normally shows on the server as a disk when mounted, but when you share, it shows as a folder.... Meaning that instead of referring to the disk via the normal way (/Volumes/NameOfDisk, I had to directly refer to /NameOfDisk/....... Very strange behaviour of Mac Osx.....

But anyways, I have my disk with movies connected, and am happy  :)

Thanks for the support  8)

Cheers
