HiMedia Q10 Pro and 4K TV
« on: August 30, 2016, 11:49:43 AM »
HI. I am a new member to the community and a lot of things are new to me with regards to media players and KODI.

I have recently (less than a month) purchased the q10 pro  ;D and tried it on my Full HD tv (Sony 46W905). I have purchased a brand new 4K TV last Friday (Panasonic 58DX802) and tried to watch a few movies during the weekend using q10 pro kodi and also its media player using my own movies.

Unfortunately the results were not as expected  :( ??? :-\.  I had the following problems:

1.   Most of the times i turn on Q10 the TV is recognized as 1080p and not 4K. I am using the default HDMI cable that came with the Q10. As a result when this happens i have to manually change the settings to 2160p 60Hrz manually.

2.   When watched Full HD (1080p) movies on Q10 either using KODI (**) or my one movies the quality of the picture is not very good. You can see shades on the screen (especially darker scenes) the colors seem like they are wrong. Whatever settings i changed on the TV (picture settings) i still have the same problems. Do i need to do anything on the Q10 pro?  IS there anthing else i need to fix in order to have good picture quality.

Please advise whats is the best thing to do when you are watching 1080p on a 4K TV.

Thank you guys  :)

For 2160p you have to disable HDMI Auto Adaption!
Set it fixed to 2160p 50hz and ycbcr 4:2:2 8Bit /HDR Mode 10
Or to 2160P 24hz ycbcr 4:4:4 10bit ( The panasonic UHD TVs support 444 10bit up to 25hz @2160p )

Theres not Auto Resolution Switching for 4K, you can only select one fixed Resolution as on the most Media Players, when you set it to 1080p you get only 1080p, so use 2160p when you play 4K Content

I have the 2016er Panasonic 58DXW784 and my Picture Quality is excellent on 4K and 1080p Content at 2160p 4:4:4 10 Bit / 24p Auto

Use FW 1.07 with Wrapper and 1080/24p Autoframerate Switch (works for 4k too)

Important on Panasonic  UHDTV ! In HDMI Settings use HDMI 2 Mode for your Input, HDMI 2 is for 4K with all Features like HDR and Color Ranges /HDCP 2.2 etc

Hi, and then you very match for your quick reply.

So when using the Q10 pro is better to have my setup on 1080p 24hrz and if i watch a 4k movie just change the settings as advised to 2160p 24hrz?

Which picture settings do you use on your Panasonic. The 58DX802 is suppose to be one the good panels and can get very good black levels.

I really need a seminar on how to properly setup the whole thing.

I have it fixed on 2160p for any Content

For the TV Settings, i would search via Google, Look at AVS Forums, USer Threads, Reviews, etc. Takes a bit Time ofcourse ;)

Hi. I Just came home and tried what you said. When i tried to set the 2160p with 24hrz (or 25Hrz) it wont stick. I tried the 2160p  @ 30 and it stayed. Is this normal?

I think you had the wrong Colorspace, set it to

ycbcr 4:4.4 10Bit 2160p 24hz or 25hz

And is i said, your HDMI Mode Must be HDMI 2 in TV HDMI Input Settings

You were right! I now changed the ycbcr 4:4.4 10Bit and then set the 2160p @ 24hz. and it worked. I have also followed your video and set-up my tv accordingly. The picture quality has improved a lot.

I still have to play a lot with the settings of the TV to understand which picture setup to use for each film. I will get there!!! :P :P :P

Thank you for everything.  ;) ;) ;)

Hi Guys,

Could you please suggest what resolution do i need to select in Himedia, in order to get the best results.

For the best PQ results: Select 2160p@60Hz (that's 4K) for anything above 1080p (videos). And select 1080p@60Hz for 1080p or bellow videos.

Cause It doesn't do automatic resolution switching and the best is to leave the upscalling of the HD/FH sources to your TV.

For the confy solution: leave it always on 2160@60Hz. (Tho' the Box uses to simply "forget" this setting after a while and reverts it back to 1080p, so sometimes you need to check and may reset it to 2160p@60Hz).

The ycbcr settings case is more complicated. I would suggest to set it to "simple" ycbcr 422, as it's the closest to the native 420 8bit that are most videos coded in.  (And some miraculous way it works even on 4K resolution 8 and 10 bit, tho according to the official HDMI 2.0 specification it should only work on 12bit).:http://www.hdmi.org/manufacturer/hdmi_2_0/hdmi_2_0_faq.aspx

You can set 4:2:0 only for the GUI (4K, 60Hz), while video playback it should switch to 444 or 422. But anyway, see what may be result a better PQ for your eyes.
