HiMedia HD900B
« on: April 15, 2015, 03:13:29 PM »
It's nice to find that this forum has started again.

I bought the HiMedia HD900B about 2-3 years ago (from Futeko) but hardly ever used it. (I wanted to rip all my DVDs and store them onto a 2TB hard drive but never got round to it.)

It's been so long since I used it and as I'm not that technical minded, I can't remember how to set it up, configure it and get things loaded up on it. I don't know where to find any information on it either.

Are there any instructions for the basic user?

HiMedia 900B user manual here: http://www.mediafire.com/download/01pgdpa82245ab3/HD900_user_manual10.19.rar

The 900B had quite a simple interface, primarily file browser based. So it's easy to set up. Just format your HDD to either EXT2 or NTFS format (can be done using the 900B but I'd recommend using a PC) and copy all your media onto it. Insert the drive into the 900B and start browsing.

Thanks Futeko, I vaguely remember that manual (I'm sure I've got it somewhere but its better to have a soft copy).

Just out of interest, is it possible to load up Kodi or XBMC onto the HD900B?

Not possible, sorry. The best you'll get is a simple cover art display using cover.jpg images which you'd have to generate yourself (http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/20690/add-cover-art-and-metadata-to-the-media-center-movie-library-with-media-center-master/) and place them in the same directory as the movie.

XBMC was at version 10 for Xbox, Linux, Windows, AppleTV only in 2011/12 when the 900B was being sold.

Thanks for the link to set up the Media Centre Library etc.

It's a shame that the HD900B won't do Kodi but not a problem as I already have an ATV2 and bought the x8-H from you last year anyway (which is working well)

Is anyone else had the same problem i have with the 900b. Whithout any reasonable explanation all of a sudden some files i have stored in my external disks just disappeared . I have  2 x 2tb seagate disks connected in the usb ports. Sometimes I'm trying to copy from a usb stick that I connect in one port to the hard disk it's connected in the other port. To do that I'm using the green button in the remote control and "copy paste " . When afterwards search through my files I see that some of them it's been erased. Any help will be much appreciated
