Video playback stuttering, "vibrations" details etc.
« on: July 24, 2016, 02:09:36 PM »
Hi guys, I'm new on this forum. :) Tired with the slowness of WD TV Player Box, I sold it and recently bought the Q10 Pro. Machine seems good and very fast without useless bloatware like others box tv android. I tested it just a little bit for the moment and I noticed some issues about playback video.
I have read about micro-stuttering and in fact I encountered this problem with every file, also with SD Quality like BDMux, DLMux etc. These files were reproduced very well with WD TV Player and I think it's not good to see that annoying issue with simple basic file video on a high quality machine like Q10 PRO. I upgraded to the last 1.0.5 firmware but problems persist.
Next point with playback is that with himedia player some video details (example: small objects, gate, a pair of glasses on face, street lamps, generic fast scenes etc.) have a kind of vibration effect, as if they were not rendered well. These video are perfect and with Kodi dvd player all you can clearly see and perfect. So i thing the problem is the app himedia player.
Another point is a strange problem with kodi dvd player. During playback it blocks the video at last 8-9 seconds of the file while the audio goes on. It's a bug?
To conclude, there's something that I can do with these problems? Primary with playback issues and micro-stuttering? I like this box but if there is no way to resolve micro-stuttering and bad rendering, I'm still in time to return the box and receive a refund. I hope to receive help from you guys.  :)

P.S To understand micro-stuttering with SD Quality video I attach some info of one file:

Codec ID: V_MPEG4/ISO/AVC
Risoluzione: 720 x 404
Frame aspect ratio: 180:101 = 1.782178 (~16:9)
Pixel aspect ratio: 1:1 = 1
Display aspect ratio: 180:101 = 1.782178 (~16:9)
Framerate: 25 fps
Content encoding:
order: 0
scope: all frames
type: compression
compression algorithm: header stripping
stripped header: 1 bytes
Dimensione stream: 320,596,394 bytes (305.744547 MiB)

Check in your TV setting have in picture option similar to Picture/Picture Options /Motion plus/Custom/Judder reduction like Samsung, for me setting to 7-8 give best results.

pcristi I don't have that option in my tv...It's a LG HD Ready PQ2000. But i don't think that it's a TV problem because with kodi I haven't that "vibration".

Turn off the Imprex engine to get rid of vibrating effect?

Turned off but vibration still persist. For this I think it's an issue of himedia app, because as I said with kodi zero problem. I'll try to capture a scene with camera to show that vibration effect.

you are right man...  my tv is a Samsung js9500 4K tv and i've been having the same issue (video playback scene artifacts when using himedia video player and they are always there no matter how you change the settings within the player or even in the main android settings.
i actually reported it about 3 weeks ago but i didn't get any reply... now i'm using kodi , but honestly missing the himedia video player goodies.... :(

Hi salalee, you have some blocks at the end of file with kodi as I explain in first thread? It's strange that block last 8-9 seconds of video.

The 'microstuttering' (by which I presume you mean a mismatch of fps to Hz on 23.976 content?) will be resolved in future firmware. HiMedia are working on it.

The vibration effect hasn't been mentioned before on the forum. Can you point to a sample file for testing?

The mediainfo you give for the SD video is for a 25fps file, which is slightly unusual. What do you have the box HDMI refresh rate set to? 25fps played at 60Hz may produce less than optimal video. Does changing box refresh to 50Hz make it better? If it does then you have the option of installing the match frame rate to output Hz patch. This will be incorporated into the next major firmware release. Or it's here for now: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=1043.0

I've seen no other reports of the last 8 seconds of video being blocked (do you mean black screen) with Kodi dvdplayer. Again, can you provide a sample to test?

25fps, 23,976fps etc, are usually used for tv series and rip that can be find on the web. I'll set refresh rate at 50HZ to see if there will be still problem, and I'll try to install autoframe script after ugrading the new firmware.  Regarding the vibration effect I'll try to make a video hoping it will see good and I'll post here for example. I noticed that using MX Player and activating hardware decoder there's no vibration effect. For this I think that is a software's issue. Regarding Kodi issue I'll also make a simple video. There's no black screen, only image stop like "pause mode" while audio goes on and close the playback at the end.

I think vibration and artifacts are probably different things. 'Artifact' is a technical term for the pixellation caused by compression. Vibration implies that the image is moving.

But I recognise that it is difficult describing video image problems without having the moving image in front of you. That's why I tend to ask for sample files.

Hi Futeko, I made a video sample to show what I mean with "vibration", but camera can't capture well the image. Anyway I attach the video. See the flickering to left and center at beginning of video. Time 0:34 see on the ground of street and on the right of edge (top of the wall). All this happens with any video files. I hope this video makes you understand what I mean for "vibration" or rather flickering. This only happens with himedia player. With kodi's dvd playar is perfect.

Thanks for the video.

The motion at 34 seconds is a frame repeat and is exactly the 23.976 problem as discussed on other threads. It will be fixed in future firmware.

In the meantime, solutions are Kodi player or output at 60Hz (i.e. turn off 24p mode) which eliminates the jump but will cause less smooth playback overall as 23.976fps is squeezed into 60hz.

In fact kodi output is automatically on 60HZ and compensates a vision without flickering but with famous micro-stuttering. Anyway I'm glad to know that you understand what I mean about that. Just an ultimate question for now  :) I noticed another issue regards the UI of player. Some apps installed not appears in "My apps" list. I have to launch them with an alternative launcher (that shows in the drawer) or with kodi. I also noticed that app preinstalled like wifi analyzer not appears.
