Kodi doesn't officially support the chipset in the Q5/Q10 and its player is therefore software based. It works with 2D but doesn't support 24p operation or 3D iso. Passing through to the internal player gives better performance (mostly) and will give the correct frame rate on 24p capable TVs.
To qualify the "mostly" comment, occasionally the internal player throws a wobbly with odd aspect ratios coming out of 3D SBS rendering with some files. In these instances you can use the remote menu option to choose the Kodi player. This will forego 24p operation in favour of the selected frame rate of 50i/p or 60i/p and give a bit of frame slipping, most noticeable with panning shots, but the aspect ratio will be correct. Hope fully Himedia will correct this soon.

Thanks Eccles for the thorough explanation.

Hi All,

On doing a fresh install I found out that when installing playercorefactory.xml as per the last * instruction at the beginning of this thread...

* Make internet streams play using Kodi internal player (dvdplayer) whilst local video plays using wrapper? Install ES File Explorer and change settings-display so you can view hidden files. Navigate to sdcard/Android/data/org.xbmc.kodi/files/.kodi/userdata/ and replace playercorefactory.xml file with this version: http://www.mediafire.com/view/9h5dr4kc4e9e30a/playercorefactory.xml

...that you must have run Kodi at least once or the org.xbmc.kodi/files/.kodi/userdata/ folder(s) will not exist. I'm sure you would have worked it out but just in case someone is wondering where the folder is I thought I'd mention it.

Regards.

We purchase the Q5 in bulk and would like to create a re-branded version of the hicontrol or handsetformultiscreen app. Do you have an unsigned version we can work with to rebrand and distribute? How can we work on this?

HiMedia aren't producing any more Q5 4K3D. If you mean Q5 Pro, then please contact HiMedia direct: export@himedia.cn

It sounds like something went wrong with the firmware install.

I recommend reinstalling again using the restore button on the back of the box.

Additionally you could do a Factory reset from the Android menu (Settings - More - Backup&Reset - Factory Reset) before performing the update.

Follow our instructions exactly:

Thanks, it works now!
I still have a problem only with Kodi.
It start but when I try to add some files on the video section  it show only the folder of my nas shares but not the files inside so in this way I am not able to start any movie.
If I use the LAN section of Himedia Media center I can see these files and run normally (only if Samba service is stop).
Can you please explain why?
I never see something like this on Kodi; I used also on my tablet without any problem using the same nas

Solved!
It was necessary to start the Samba service for see the movies on Kodi.
But now I see that I use Kodi video player instead of the Himedia player.
Is it still necessary to load Himediawrapper?

If you've lost wrapper install somehow you can always reinstall it.

Do you mean a problem with downloading the update file, or a problem installing the update on the Q5/Q10?

The update package is available from either us or HiMedia:

Q10 4K3D:

The problem is with downloading the update fileQ5_4K3D._11-DEC-2015._FIRMWARE_HMD-3.0.3_FUTEKO-EN.zip ...it stops at 65,5 mb. I made several attempts with the same conclusion.

Is update file on Himedia site compatible with Q5 European Version?

If you get the same problem downloading from both our and HiMedia's download locations (which are completely different servers) then the problem is at your end somwhere. Maybe try a different PC.
