After more than a year with very few Android Boxes (mainly Ugoos AMB6 Plus) having a CoreELEC build offering Dolby Vision FEL, May 2026 saw support ported across to the Amlogic S905X5M chipset and hence a few more. https://discourse.coreelec.org/t/fel-amlogic-no-support/58631.
Ultimately, we have made the decision to stock the best value Amlogic S905X5M box now supporting Dolby Vision FEL, Xiaomi TV Box S (3rd Gen).
Video playback hardware and performance is identical to the more expensive boxes with the differences being in hardware interfaces (USB ports, ethernet, S/PDIF).
Xiaomi TV Box S (3rd Gen) offers truly outstanding format support and image quality and, with CoreELEC installed, the user interface is slick and dependable. It's main hardware miss is the lack of ethernet, which can be rectified with a USB ethernet adaptor.
The Xiaomi hardware itself is rock solid with good build quality and a very usable Bluetooth/IR voice remote.
It's also a pretty good Google TV box if you decide not to install CoreELEC(!), having the usual compatibility with many streaming apps via a slick interface.
If you want a cheap and feature packed Media Player (full BD-ISO menus and Dolby Vision FEL!), and you are prepared to do a bit of work yourself in installing CoreELEC, then Xiaomi TV Box S (3rd Gen) is a real bargain.
All the CoreELEC boxes require user self-installation and have no guarantee of ongoing support. If you're serious about video then we recommend a fully integrated dedicated Media Player from Zidoo or R_volution.
