TVs / Projectors that support 720p 24Hz Mode
« on: June 16, 2016, 01:18:03 PM »
Anyone who's been following the forum will have seen that a reported bug in Q5/Q10 Pro is that it doesn't switch into 24Hz mode for content below 1080p (i.e. 720p 24Hz).

HiMedia have requested that users having this problem please post what TV / projector they are using.

Could users please also post the playback hardware they've used to get 720p 24Hz in the past.

Thanks.

Projector JVC-X7000

Devices running 24P correct: UE55ES7000,BD-F 7500, Tronsmart S82B, MX III (Amlogic powered devices may not be perfect @24P but worlds better than the Q10pro.

Does anyone have a TV with which this works correctly with the Q10 Pro? If not, what is the point of the question?

24p on Q5/Q10 pro doesn't currently work below 1080p resolution.

The point of the question was to provide HiMedia with a list of TVs supporting 720p 23.976hz, not many do.

1080p 23.976hz is much more common.

Hm, in this case I missunderstood you.
My TV as I know does not support 720p 24Hz.
But the Q10 Pro should be able to scale up any resolution below 1080p or cropped material in 23.976 to 1080p 24Hz resp. to bypass the real Hz number.

I don't know if my TV supports 720p24 because both my Popcorn Hour A200 and Medi8er MED1000X3D upscales lower resolution content to 1080p24 and neither seem to support 24Hz at 720p. I want the Q10 Pro to do the same.

Would be interesting indeed to understand this. I have tried to read about this issue on so many websites, but nowhere it is described how this micro-stutter for 23.976 coding is getting created and how to solve it. For instance, you read about Kodi having "automatic switching of refresh rate", but that is only part of the solution. May be this upscaling to 1080p might be the normal solution?

It usually happens because the media box is not sending the video stream to the TV at the same rate as it is stored, so once in a while it will have to skip a frame or show the same frame twice to keep the audio in sync. The frequency of the stuttering depends of how much out of sync they are. If 23.976 material is shown at 24 Hz it only happens rarely, but when either is shown at 50 or 60 Hz it happens every second.

Thanks. So let's assume i have a modern 4K LCD TV that would accept any kind of Hz rates, and I would force the Media Box to output on 23.976. Would this solve the issue? So, some questions:
(a) Why is the Media box not sending in right Hz, is this because of TV (which forces the Box to go for another Hz setting), or the Media box cannot handle it?
(b) If the Media Box is wrong, is this because of (1) firmware in correlation with chip-set, (2) Kodi Application settings or (3) Android drivers?
(c) Is upscaling by the Media Box the solution, or is this just "patching" the solution?

I would love to see a complete story around this, so I can understand better, and also better analyze what Media Box and TV to choose :-)

I think we all got you wrong.

But Q10pro does not need to output 720p 24p. It's okay if it upscales to 1080p and output 24p.
Since Imprex Engine is not totally untalented in upscaling 😀 I think thats a easier solution for HiMedia.

But whatever they do... The most important is to fix the bad stutterinf freezing 24p playback.
