7.1 sound? Problem with my setup or a glitch?
« on: March 23, 2015, 11:59:49 AM »
My PCG03 is routed via hdmi through my Onkyo receiver.
If I go into the `Sound` settings on the Mele and change the sampling rate to `24bit/192000hz/studio quality`, the sound is lost from both front and centre channels and is redirected to the rear speakers only. Test tones do not work in the 7.1 options on f/c channels either with this sampling rate.
I don't really think it is a problem with my amp as it is more than capable of the higher sampling rate, so is it a glitch in the driver?
What do you think?
Cheers
Chris

I will test this later today. We have a Denon 7.1 amp so testing will eliminate the amp as a possibility.

Thank you.
It must be a driver issue as the test-tone options don't work in the higher sampling rate for the f&c channels but do for everything else.

Using a 7.1 channel Denon amp but with only the stereo speakers connected, I get the same results at all sampling frequencies using the test sound at Settings - Sound - DENON-AVAMP Properties - Advanced.

On the Denon I have the input information screen up which shows the input is PCM 2/0/0 (so PCM 2 channel stereo) at whichever sampling frequency I choose up to the max 192000Hz.

So it looks like it works fine (front speakers at all times) on my amp. Although I do appreciate that I've not actually tested it with 7.1 speakers attached.

I suspect that, with only two speakers connected the audio will only be routed that way so the test isn't giving a true comparison. I have gone through all the settings again today and the result is the same, no audio on the highest sampling rate through f&c channels.
Cheers
Chris
