Q10 Pro does not do HDR
« on: May 31, 2016, 06:49:15 PM »
@Futeko

I have been trying my q10 out again with the latest firmware but what ever I do I cannot get it to output HDR.

I have a Samsung ue55js8500 tv.  The hdmi is set to accept hdr signal.

Now I have tried every setting in the Q10..  Well what settings I can.  The settings seem to be a complete mess.  It saves if you set hdr mode and 444 10 bit in advanced but not if you set it in second options ( WHY are options duplicated?)

Anyway..  I would like to see a screen shot from anyone who has HDR working.  As in your TV displays info detailing the tv is running in HDR..
With my tv when you goto info it shows you the Res.  It will then show you either [HD] : 1080p, [UHD] : 2160p or [SUHD] 2160p HDR.

I can only get HD when setting box to 1080p, UHD when setting box to 2160p ( Why I have to set it is beyond me the box should auto change)

If anyone has got it working then please for the love of god tell me what your settings are.

BTW I am testing with the camp demo http://demo-uhd3d.com/fiche.php?cat=uhd&id=144

Just as an update.  I tested a few more example videos last night.

This one made me very curious http://demo-uhd3d.com/fiche.php?cat=uhd&id=115

Basically if I played this video directly from the tv itself it played superbly.  Brilliant image quality and no stutters.
If I played it via the q10 pro.  It struggled.  Constant stutters and picture quality was no where near as good as the tv.

Really starting to think the q10 might be a turkey.

Some file from demo-uhd3d look to be strange made it and report error.

Samsung_SUHD_Picture_Quality Demo_Nano_Crystal Display_UK-Version have some error

Q10Pro is not so friendly with file witch contend error, this usual have audio sync error and stutters.

it is weird, **, life of pi and nano crytal demo 4k hdr  worked well with my Q10 pro, they're smooth, PQ is the same between my sony and the q10 pro, except Sony Camp 4K hdr the sky seems to be 8bit gradient/ gradient dithering, not 10bit as on my sony tv.

Are you positive your Q10 is actually rendering HDR?
If I look at life of pi and ** on my Q10 the picture quality does look good but I know it is not rendering it as HDR.
Due to the content of those 2 it is hard to determine with the eye unless you have 2 identical sets next to each other and playing the content on both.
However as you pointed out.
Sony Camp does allow to you notice if its not HDR and you have seen this yourself.
Basically I do not think the Q10 is rendering HDR at all.  Yes it is outputting 4k but that is all it is outputting.

@Oliver What settings do you have in your Q10?

yes, i have the same quality between my tv ( internal video player Sony) and the Q10 pro (kodi 1.61+wrapper), my tv automatically switches when i watch HDR demo or Netflix HDR marco polo, and they are smooth.

i made a little video page 33 / 2016-05-12 19:07 with beta f/w the last month.

What means HDMI Output - Close?
I thought that nowadays there isn't any other Video output mode than HDMI?

@PJDavis1970

your Q10 pro is directly connected to the tv or  to your receiver (HDMI 2.0 A) ?

The Q10 pro is directly connected to the tv.

I have tested with supplied hdmi cable that came with q10 and also with an expensive hdmi cable I have.

I tested with your settings and also tested with small tweaks and what ever I do I cannot get it to work as it should.

The PQ is good and to an average person they might think its working as it should but 1. my tv does not register it as an HDR signal and 2. I can clearly see the PQ is not as good as when my tv is rendering (which does indicate the signal is HDR)

i have made some tests the last night between q10 pro and shield tv (with Sony Camp 4K HDR and no HDR) and i have also watched all my demos 4k HDR, and my tv received HDR signal and switch automatically

The PQ is good and to an average person they might think its working as it should but :

not possible, there is too much difference between both (HDR and NO HDR)

1. my tv does not register it as an HDR signal

it is weird as yours TV does not switch, i remember i had problems with first version of ''life of pi''and ''**'', and i downloaded the second version  (but they are no longer available from demo-uhd3d)

did you try ''Fire HDR demo by FOX''

2. I can clearly see the PQ is not as good as when my tv is rendering (which does indicate the signal is HDR)

Yes the difference is really ugly without HDR
