WD Green 3TB  works fine in my Q10, no noise and no heat.

Regards!

WD Green is replaced by Blue. Also Pink is a good choice for the same reasons.
Seagate Desktop class HDD tend to make more noise which varies from unit to unit (due to vibrations).

I had a spare WD red 6tb which was a standby for my NAS.  This went in with no issues at all.

- Connected drive via Sata to one of my windows machines.  Partitioned it and formatted.
- Inserted into Q10 Pro

Works fine.

New Q10pro just arrived so not familiar with these. I assume from above answer the HD needs external formatting ? Is this not possible from within the box itself using Android OS. Thanks

Is your Red 6tb or Red pro 6tb?
I have red pro version, is silent, but i hear some noise at writing.
I think because case is made from plastic.

If the HDD is formated in NTFS + GPT additional formatting is not needed.
Android OS is not able to format any HDD.
