HI Guys...
I too am interested in the bay enclosure. I think this one is the more later model FANTEC QB35US36G. And I think it doesn't require raid. Can someone confirm it can provide a jbod, ie single storage drive, instead of 4 drives.

1. Can you send me links to the fans from amazon ?
2. Anyone confirm if it takes 8tb drives....I have 4x6TB drives and full already. Full of movies, mp3 and audiobooks!

ps: just managed to get my order for a Q10 Pro...hopefully I can play with it by this weekend.

1- No this unit presents 4 individual drives. The Raid version will do JBOD (RAID-0) as one of the options. Be aware that you can't plug and play anymore with even JBOD.
2- A quick search will get you all info inclusive prices, spec sheets and manuals.
3- I am pretty sure it will handle 4x 8 TB but did not read a practical experience (that is a lot of money)

What about getting the 8-Bay version instead? You then can simply grow on by adding 8 TB units.

Have myself 53 TB using 17 individual HDD's so use the plug & play principle  with dedicated drives per movie category.
Changed my Plug & Play from SATA Docking to USB3 Enclosures and now probably back to SATA docking again (removing some from the enclosures)

No flexraid I am afraid on standard NAS or these boxes. Changing a drive requires a full rebuild.

Double size and 2 fans. Putting in ultra silent fans may do the trick?

Just plug & play the naked HDD in a Docking or Bay. My PC has two cartridge dockings. Files are DVD and BD in ISO format only and mostly 1:1 copies which results in a huge volume indeed
NO, I don't have backups of the whole, but loss is limited to one unit (plenty drives). I do have a backup/search index what is on them)
No I don't use scrapers at all. Don't use KODI either.

Categories are bundled and split according the available space per HDD. Occasionally I shift some categories to new (=bigger ) drives. Gives a fresh copy also and is an implicit defrag.

No experience here. Just using the Plug & Play version never tried RAID/JBOD. Takes too much capacity away for my budget anyway; already spending a lot of money on HDD as it is.

I am using HDD per category using the HDD which is best price/TB. The smallest is 2 TB and the largest now 8 TB.
I do bundle multiple categories on a single HDD were possible. Occasionally I do move a category to a new bigger HDD, which may lead to shift of multiple HDD about once a year. Never had real problems with a HDD, but check SMART statistics now and then (one HDD was replaced as a consequence doing an RMA for it). If a HDD with several categories gets too big I do split those up.  Use Total Commander to make DIRDisks (=looks like a ZIP without the actual files). Use the same Total Commanders for all file operations inclusive filefind to search  for a movie across all HDD  even when stored off-network as it is found in the dirdisk (using matching labels).

Loss of BD's will be limited as I have a lot of HDD (Plug & Play concept) . Also have a full content overview and most should be recoverable. All my pictures, music and DVD's are on a single 8 TB HDD (= Internal HDD) and keep a full  copy backup of that one.

Don't use KODI or Artwork. Looks nice but too much overhead for me. when needed use IMDB on my PC and as an APP. Would be a nice feature to get a button to look up IMDB for the current movie (being played or selected using the file browser).

so, my old disk array has gone kaput (possibly due to old-age and a power cut).
I am now looking to buy QB-X8US3-6G 8X3.5 or FANTEC QB-X8US3R. I think Fantec have stopped doing the 4-bay version.
SO, my questions are
1. I will be using FlexRaid on a JBOD. I have 2 setups on different machines, so dont really need a single enclosure to do my RAID.  I keep the two enclosures in sync manually using vice-versa. I think the  QB-X8US3-6G so that I can keep on growing my space from 4 disks to more at a later stage. Is that correct?

2. FANTEC QB-X8US3R. If used in JBOD, can be same as above, but my JBOD has to be created at start and cannot be changed. A change means I lose all my data and have to rebuild. Change = replace or add new disk.

3. Fans. What fans should I buy that will keep the noise low.

FANTEC QB-X8US3R is the Plug & Play unit. One can mix and match with those. I am sure the 4-port units are still sold. Using Flexraid that should be fine I think, but don't know flexraid myself.

I put NoiseBlocker fans in it from Amazone.DE and those work very well. Leave even the front panel off for true Plug & Play.
Be warned the size of the fans is non-standard 50x50x20 (most are 50x50x25  which won't fit).

I am going to go with the non R model...don't need it and wont pay extra for it either. the box/pdf also suggests the 6G is good if used as a disk enclosure, letting your OS or s/w manage how the disks are to be grouped.

I have a similar but peculiar problem in my new Q10 Pro.

I have presently the below combination:

1. WD My BOOK External HDD 4 TB(External powered) connected on USB 3 - This was the first disk connected to the Q10 Pro and had all the movies mapped in Kodi library.
2. LAter on I had inserted internal HDD WD Green 2 TB and also mapped all the movies in Kodi library.

Problems are the following;

A. After power up, the External HDD connected on USB 3 seems to be working since the LED's are ON but the movies are not recognized in Kodi which were originally mapped earlier and were playing before the Internal HDD was installed.

B. All the internal HDD movies were playing properly.

C. To check I had tried to play the movies connected on the USB 3 through the Q10 Pro native media player and it recognizes the HDD and also play s the movies

D. I tried as suggested in this thread to shift the External HDD to USB 2. This time it is much stranger. Kodi's screen freezes at the boot screen with a below message continuously displaying ' accessing external player'. If I go to native media player again it recognizes the external HDD files.

Summary:

I. Am I missing some settings in the Q10 Pro or Kodi
ii. Is it the problem of Kodi or Q10 Pro ? If Kodi issue should I raise this query on the Kodi forum ?

This  is a very well known problem originating from how Android (auto)mounts devices. Just search on it. KODI gets confused as the full path may change  between power up cycles (sda, sdb, sdc etc).
There are partial solutions like the pcristi script which may work well if you keep connected the same resources over time.

The real problem is you can't (re-)map manually. Android does this for you. The sequence you connect devices with (or the speed of detection at power-up) influences this.
The script of pcristi may help you? Not an expert in that area.
