Is it neccssary or "strongy recommended" to update the firmware with the method described in the first post, or updating within the players Setting->Upgrade->Local upgrade is just as safe as the "paper clip" method? Cause I wonder why it's on the Quick start Guide, but not here in the official Firmware Forum page?

Thanks for the replies!

Strongly recommended but not necessary.

Updating through the menu will probably be OK, but without knowing what apps are installed or what changes have been made to the system it may cause instability. For that reason I would always recommend doing a full reinstall using the reset/update button on the back of the box.

I agree with your logic.  The issue is that we are missing a way to backup the configuration settings, shares, wallpaper, network, apps, etc.  Think how Apple backs up their devices, they auto update iOS and when done you have a full working updated OS, your apps and confirmation are intact.  This type of service is expected by consumers these days.  If there was a process to save that data and restore it, so t hat we don't have to keep re-configuring, it would make a huge difference in customer satisfaction.

Can you please ask the developers to strongly consider this request?

We will always receive firmware updates and we will continue to add to and customize our systems - investing more time to fine tune.  This problem will get more frustrating and continue to be a royal PITA unless this functionality is added.

Ok, thanks!

And is it also necessary to use an "empty" Pendrive for the update, that doesn't contain any other files than the unzipped firmware?  (Sometimes it's difficult to solve to have a fully wiped Pendrive around, but if that's the only way...)

(And I agree fully with the request in the previous post, it would be a much convinient solution and would help to avoid a lot of hustle and snag, if we could upgrade the firmware within the menu and without beginning all from the basics...)

I agree about a better way to preserve settings between updates and will pass it on as a request to Himedia.

Re. the update USB stick, you can have other files on the USB stick. The Q5/Q10 Pro just looks for update.zip and ignores everything else.

We are waiting for the firmware links from HiMedia.

They are having problems uploading from China to servers outside China.

We still expect new firmware later.

I have an ENIGMA based Set Top Box (SAT-receiver) with perfect backup: Settings and add-ons in various degrees and total running image backups at choice (look for Black Hole firmwares).  If it can be done for Enigma it can be done for Android I would say as both have the same roots.

It will be on HiMedia site with a couple of days.

In the meantime the downloads in our firmware threads are the official firmware direct from HiMedia. You can trust us.  :o

Thought this firmware was supposed to switch  frame rates?
Suhd 10bit fixed but nothing I play changes from 60 to 24. Am I missing something or does this firmware not switch if 1080p stored as 800 line mkv?
