Received for the test firmware Q10 Pro HMD-2.0.4 2017-06-29.161220
ChangeLog:
1. HDR ratio issue fixed
2. some apps not working on ethernet issue fixed
3. some ASS special effect subtitles supported
4. compatibility issue of some routers fixed
5. some posters
6. the video player sometimes stop runing issue fixed
7. the system crash caused by DATA patition read-only issue fixed
8. some apps at home page stop running issue fixed
9. media center updated, media center
10. video player updated bring more friendly UI and smooth operaon
11. system file manager optimized bring a simple and brief file list
12. HD playback optimized bring many useful functions
13. online playback optimized, some apps online playback issue fixed
14. system local playback optimized, some BT2020 movie playback color trouble issue fixed
As a result of the tests, I unsubscribe:
1. BDMV folders (including UHD) are automatically launched for playback (now you do not need to look for M2TS). And from network sources, too. Chapterset and Switch track work. The test utility produces fractional frequencies of 23.976 Hz at the output!
2. HDR ratio: The aspect ratio is now correct, in a regular player.
Test files 23.976 Hz HDR Crop
3840 * 2076 - OK all pixels are in place
3840 * 1634 - 2 pixels from below bites off
3840 * 1620 - OK all pixels are in place
3840 * 1606 - 2 pixels from below bites off
3840 * 1600 - OK all pixels are in place
The test utility outputs 23.976 Hz at the output!
 #

Test files 59.940 Hz HDR Crop
3840 * 2076 - OK all pixels are in place
3840 * 1634 - 2 pixels from below bites off
3840 * 1620 - OK all pixels are in place
3840 * 1606 - 2 pixels from below bites off
3840 * 1600 - OK all pixels are in place
But the test utility outputs 60 Hz. (Not fixed)
3. There is no reset (Resolution, frequency and ColorSpace settings)
4. IMPREX ENGINE can now be customized in any mode and at any resolution.
5. Redesigned menus, when you click the buttons, during playback. Added more settings and features.
6. Added more information when you click on the INFO button (Codec and bitrate)
In the 3D ISO, the output is still the same 24Hz
The rest I can start later. Unsubscribe.
UPD. By the way. Perhaps this is a beta of beta, but it only got on top of 2.0.3. On 1.0.9 / 1.0.10 and on 2.0.1 beta did not want to get up. I already informed Himedia about this.

Oh this is a disappointment from my perspective. All this time and still no fixes for the things I want.

Digital multi channel audio out of kodi 17. None. But my more budget friendly minix u1 has this. No fix for the choppy video when streaming TV from my media pc (mpeg 2 I believe) but my minix u1 has no problems at all up to full hd mpeg 2.

Also assume no fix for the default launcher so stuck with the himedia one.. But my minix u1 is fine as well.

I know I've said it before, but I bought this as an upgrade and now wondering whether I should have stuck with the more budget friendly options... I understand that the himedia player is good but that's not why I bought this box.. Wish I found this forum before purchasing.

And again no fix for the microstutter problem when playing 3d iso... >:( >:( >:(

This was my last himedia player, enough to wait for basic functions!

I'm still hopeful new fw will improve my veiwing,  which is modest

Whilst we wait, what were the budget devices you had/considered before the getting the himedia, and the reason you bought the box which those presumablt didnt have?

Thanks

I'm running the latest 2.03 firmware on Android 7 and I notice that when a movie is played via the standard Himedia player I notice some framedrops every now and then. Is there a setting or fix for this that anyone knows of.  :)

Yea, as these Himedias are advertised bravely with KODI 17 now, I can understand your complains, as it seams very very odd and misleading marketing strategy (and nothing more  at the moment).

If you want correct local playback with KODI you should go back to 16.1, and install the auto fps patch. If you also want IPTV steaming stutterless, than go the Video Playback menu in KODI setting and turn OFF both Acceleration option, and disable the fps patch.
But if you want to keep the KODI 17 interface than try some of the "shitty" builds, which are KODI 17/16.1 hybrids: http://mirrors.kodi.tv/test-builds/android/arm/

I know, these are already enough gadgeteering to a Box that supposed to work right out of the box, and casual users normally shouldn't have to even care about them, but are still possible solutions.

My preferred workaround is to have the 1.0.9 fw and use the Wrapper for local playback, and KODI 16.1 for IPTV streaming. Almost satisfied, almost since I really miss the correct DVD fps switching implementation and a few other basic features.

(You can also try to install LibreElec to your U1 box. You will get KODI, fully operational, with HD audio, and nothing more, just a decent media player. And just a few minutes to pop it up to and SD card. Besides you still can keep the original Android on the Box, and you loose nothing.)

Hi! Not shureif i am in the right place, but i will try;) I have a problem i hope someone here maybe knows about. Almost every time i use the Box, Kodi have lost the Source of my Movies, just to come back after 2-3 times. So sometimes it works and sometimes it dont. Very annoying and i cant understand why. I have an internal hd and 1 external. Both are not available from the Library but i find them in "files" and they have the same name as before. So nut shure if it is the Box or it is Kodi screwing up the Library so i wonder if someone here has any idea?

Hi,

I am so sympathy for your situation on these forum. As a Chinese in Hong Kong. I understand how those manufacturers work. They have more noise than works. Everything claimed response with "No problem" and "OK". Of course, there are responsible and respectable manufacturers. Like Oppo, they make brilliant UHD Blu-Ray player priced at US$1600 without major complaint. People paid less than US$200 for a media box and complain a lot. Egreat just said they will introduce a new model call A11 based on the same chipset as A5/A10 at price tag of US$499 before they fix the same problem on A5/A10 as Q10 Pro on the HDR aspect ratio. The main reason is people used to pay less but ask for most. Just remember how much you paid and just go away if you don't happy if you have alternate devices to pick. 20 years ago, we have a word from Sony - "if one product is successful in 20 of innovative prototype that is wonderful". It is the "Walkman"

Everybody keep your finger cross for the next firmware that fix some of the bugs. Hopefully happens within this week.

For the above: these Media players are advertised as 4K, HDR and KODI 17 compatible/capable devices. As for now (since more than one years past from the release) they're still not. We didn't ask for anything that wasn't/isn't promised by HiMedia in it's product specification.  So I guess all the according user complains are quite enough reasonable.

HiMedia Q5/Q10 Pro are 4K, HDR, Kodi 17 compatible/capable and have been since launch.

They have a couple of very well documented bugs (mainly HDR aspect ratio - fixed in 2.0.4 firmware and Kodi 17 internal player HD-Audio - the same as almost all Android boxes and can be overcome for local media by Kodi+wrapper) but to say they aren't as advertised or aren't 4K, HDR, Kodi 17 compatible/capable is not true.

Most 4K sources are and will be HDR, majority of these videos will be affected by the HDR aspect ratio bug. True or not true?! Does it make this device -so far- a truly 4K and HDR compatible media player, as one would normally conclude it from the expected usage of these media players? This is a fact, regardless if it's will be fixed after more than a year in the most recent fw or not.

Yes, most bugs are well documented for those who have some deeper technical abilities and tend to browse through the internet and hopefully find a forum like this with the direct intention to find out possible bugs regarding the Box, hopefully BEFORE they even purchase it. And all these "documentations" here in the forums threads were made by the users, who have found the bugs/issues by themselves while trying to use the box for what they have bought it and AFTER they have bought it. And sorry if I'm mistaken but I still couldn't find any "Sticky" Thread dedicated to the existing bug collection, nor mentioned in any of these Sticky Threads summary.

The box isn't fully compatible with KODI 17, as far as I know KODI 17 isn't good for anything else on these Boxes,  just for a browser and Jukebox accessory for the Wrapper/HiPlayer. Even DD and DTS sounds wouldn't work and both online streaming and local video playback with KODI 17's internal player is a bunch of stuttering and bugging. Who would call that as FULL COMPATIBILITY?! I know this last one isn't up just for HiMedia, cause the the developers of KODI have their part of the issue, but it's clear that it still shouldn't be advertised as a KODI 17 capable device.

Sorry, I'm not tending here to offend anyone, be rude or turn against with no reason, I'm just thinking with the reasoning head of a righteously disappointed costumer/user, basing all my complain to the observed facts. Sorry that I have to say this, but your newly communication reflecting to these complains seams rather to be business driven misstatement and counter.

The 'HDR aspect ratio bug' affects video only where the resolution is not 16:9. It only affects Himediaplayer (not MX player, not Kodi internal, not VLC etc). Most currently available 4K video is not HDR.

To say without qualification that Q5/Q10 Pro are not capable of 4K or HDR is not true.

Kodi 17 runs fine on Q5/Q10 Pro. The only things that don't work are 7.1 audio and 3D-ISO, both of which are available using the pre-installed wrapper for local media. This is a direct quote from our website regarding Kodi:

"KODI HARDWARE SUPPORT Standard Android Kodi (including version 17), as downloaded from Play Store or the Kodi website, has good support for Q10 Pro. Hardware decoding with HiMedia's unrivalled image quality and Imprex 2.0 image processing works for H.264/H.265/HEVC video up to 4K60. The only features missing compared to Kodi+wrapper are 7.1 HD-Audio (5.1 DTS/AC3 max), auto frame-rate switching, and 3D ISO."

We explain the situation accurately and in detail. Nowhere do we claim 'full compatibility'. We try and be as clear and honest as possible about specifications on our website.

To say that Q5/Q10 Pro are not Kodi 17 compatible/capable is not true.

But.. I'm not going to get into a long dispute about this. The wait for new firmware has been unacceptable and I'm as disappointed about it as anybody. Within a couple of days we'll have 2.0.4 official and the firmware discussion can move forward at last.
