did you try enabling the SMB share?  It's in the main Settings page.

What is your error?  How are you trying to connect?

If you Start Samba, you will be able to connect via SMB by using the IP address.

\\192.168.1.10\share    (as example)

You will then be able to see all storage devices attached.  This assumes you already know how to connect to SMB shares.

There's no error as such. I am trying to connect with USB 3.0 cable with Q10 pro as the slave.
So I should be seeing all the drives in my windows explorer. So far only the internal HDD in Q10 pro shows up.
The USB 3.0 HDD or pen drives in USB 2.0 connected to Q10 Pro does not show up.

BTW I have not connected with Samba shares before, so don't know how exactly it works.
I connect to PC via NFS.

Thanks.

That's how it's supposed to work. Only the internal HDD on Q10 Pro will show up on a PC when Q10 Pro is connected to the PC by USB cable.

For other attached USB storage can't you just plug them into the PC direct?

Using USB-slave mode the SATA connected HDD is bridged straight to the USB-3 port by a chip in pure HW. The media player itself does not make part of it anymore. The performance is limited only by the HDD specs (or even SSD). No way to get a better throughput.

Yes, of course I can plug them directly into the PC .

But please see below the earlier discussions on this matter, which lead me to believe that we can access storage on Q10 pro through PC.
Maybe I misunderstood?

* Access attached storage on PC via USB cable? Any storage device attached to Q10 Pro (including internal SATA) will appear as a USB drive when Q10 Pro is attached to PC by USB type B to USB type A cable (like a typical USB printer cable).

This is not working for me. I can only see probably the internal SD card drive (it's inaccessible..it says please insert a disc into Removable Disk).
I have attached 2TB HDD on USB 3.0 and 2GB Pendrive on USB 2.0. Unable to see both.
I have not installed internal HDD. So is this feature possible only if you have internal HDD?

What OS?

It definitely works. Make sure everything is connected before booting the PC/Mac.
windows 8.1. i tried hard reset and reinstalled firmware...both custom and official. the usb drive doesn't show up. even rebooted PC with all connected..but no luck. does anyone else see this one inaccessible drive?

The quote of mine from April (itself a quote from the FAQ) is a mistake on my behalf.

Only Q10 Pro internal HDD is visible to the PC when Q10 Pro connected to PC by USB cable, not USB storage attached to Q10 Pro.

I apologise for the mistake. The FAQ has been corrected.

Ok no problem. Thanks for clarification! :-)

You can connect your Q10 to your LAN and use your PC to connect via IP address.   You will then see all attached storage and files.

I have not connected to PC via network. Instead I have connected Q10 Pro with a crossover cable directly to PC ethernet port and set manual IP addresses. Use HaneWin NFS server to share the HDDs from PC. The reason for not using network (via gigabit router) was that the blu-ray video used to stutter while browsing internet. So with this direct connection the video plays smoothly while browsing internet on PC. Only drawback is that now there's no internet for Q10 Pro as Android does not let us have connections via ethernet and wifi at same time.

I put an old hdd (seagate 80 Gb 7200 rpm) in the drive bay of the q10 pro.
File copy from windows pc to q10 15-20 MB/s
file copy from q10 to windows pc  60 MB/s
File transfers to my NAS on the same network (lan) from the same pc are 112 MB/s
Using that old drive I wasn't expecting much but that 20 MB/s write seems a bit slow even for it.
Also i had to look around a bit to find it in the q10, it is in \\ANDROID_65F9C\share\media_rw\sda1
Is there a way to format the drive from android ? I have no idea what file format is on it now.

The limit is the Samba server software in the Q10 Pro. There is a patch that improves speeds considerably. See here: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=1467.0

Thanks; improved now to about 50 MB/s, that's acceptable considering the very old drive.
