Q5/Q10 Pro Official Firmware

Official kodi released an update. 17.1, now some audio passthrough works. Only stereo is passing through. No surround sound is working. Not even Dolby Digital AC3. Oh and I  notice no Dolby  digital transcoding. But transcoding is available on phone version. I still have to patch 2.0.3 up to official q10pro firmware

I ordered my q5 pro with Android 7 and kodi 17.  I though these boxes can be easily uprgaded online, or do you need  to upgrade using an sd card and flashing the box every time?  If so what a waste of money

You can use wrapper Wrapper-1.0.1_HMD_1229_Release.apk with  KODI 17.1

 DTS+DTS-HD+TRUE HD+ DOLBY DIGITAL working

Excatly. And all my over the air TV and media library comes from my server (to multiple android boxes) so I don't have any multi channel audio from any of my sources.

I didn't buy the q10 pro for storing local media, and it was for the hardware and what I thought was going to be a well supported piece of hardware. I still have hope, but at the moment it's a step backwards for me from the minix u1 it replaced for all things in kodi.

(2) Can I install this custom firmware over official Android 7 Q10pro firmware 2.0.1? Aim is for Kodi 17. But do give instructions to this possibility.

Yes You can. But with wrapper media player on KOD? 17.1 Krypton version

1. No, I mean 5.1 audio max the same as Kodi 16.1.

2. Yes, but you need to install the downgrade firmware first. I've added a section to the opening post with this info:

TO INSTALL ANDROID 5.1 FIRMWARE OVER ANDROID 7 FIRMWARE: First install the Q5 Pro or Q10 Pro downgrade firmware, then the latest Android 5.1 firmware.

DTS ok.
True HD Ok.
Dolby Atmos ok.

Canice wants to use Kodi's internal player for streaming. Wrapper cannot be used for streaming.

If you play content from local sources (USB/SATA/SMB/NFS) then Kodi+wrapper gives complete HD-Audio support (ATMOS/DTS:X etc etc) no problems.

The issue is getting HD-Audio working in Kodi internal player, and it is that we are waiting for HiMedia/HiSilicon to fix.

Anyone else having the same issues?  Will this problem be solved with upgrade to Android 7 and the new Q10 Pro 2.0 Firmware?

That depends. Are you using Kodi 17 without the Wrapper? If you are, then that is the reason why you don't have surround. The Kodi team changed the way the audio sink is programmed so it is more compatible and compliant with Google's guidelines. Unfortunately that means that Android 5 and below will not see any surround support in Kodi 17.
In Kodi 16 however, you should have proper DTS and Dolby Digital output from within Kodi even without the use of the Wrapper. Just as long as you enable audio pass through.
