+1. Brilliantly said. A useable player but a pain-in-the-butt and troublesome firmware. My last himedia product. Next time I will save money for the professionals: Oppo 205 or Project Scorpio...
Cheers.

@ralphberner: that is the initialization of the app. The first time it start it will be a little slower. No app starts quickly, it needs to be configured. This applies to all apps on all ecosystems ;)
I know this too. But your hint has hardly any relation to the topic i described. Have you read it at all? But thanks for the try anyway.

Well i'm not completely happy with that procuct too and would be ready to pay more for something more reliable. But according to my experience five times more expensive products don't really run much better by default. My biggest pain is the lacking of a complete and propper backup & restore procedure for all Android settings and Kodi settings. There are methods but none of them worked for me. They didn't work or it was undetectable where the backup went. I have a checklist for all settings meanwhile i go through manually after each update wich takes me half an hour. Welcome to 1980.  :-\

I have Oppo 205 and I can tell you:
- There are many video files played at wrong framerate; They are played at 23.976 instead of 25.
- It doesn't read ISO bluray.
- It doesn't read BDMV foldere as a bluray.
- It doesn't read SACD ISO files.
So, even if you buy an Oppo, you can't put the Q10 Pro in a drawer.

TBH, Q10Pro is performing very good for its price. The eventual option of Dolby Vision decoding is still attractive :)

+1111 Exactly. The kodi back up is simple by using the new streaming world zip( ex ares which now totally  ?egal), but for the himedia device itself its a total pain, made worse when you need to up/down grade. Why can't a settings  back/restore be created to account for the individuals choices which can be stored as required  away from pro 10 with easy restore .

i echo that.

for the price and what i use, it is excellent; firmware 2.0.8 is the best to date - for me.
i read a lot of complaints about subtitles but my collection with ext subs which is not a lot... srt, idx... been good since 2.0.4.
embedded subs, incl bdmv have never been a problem for me.

what i use this box for:

.. local playback of typically larger files - 1080p/4k bdmv, dtshdma, ddruehd; i don't do 3d and have few old dvd rips; no gaming.
.. i never use kodi for local playback, i like it fast using native player; wrapper not in use.
.. kodi... using only one addon - quasar - this one works very well with internal hdd - stream 5-20gb files with dd/dd+ (not dts) audio since 2.0.6.
.. a few live tv and vod apps - in hd, incl a couple that did not work with firmwares 2.0.7 and earlier.
.. samba play or transfer files from pc to box sometimes.

as it is, i find q10pro good. i just wish himedia will do is to introduce a new model with octacore 3/32gb as i plan to get another box.
that will reduce the need for int hdd for some apps, a lighter box and hopefully, cheaper.
quadcore 2/16gb is already obsolete in mobile phones!

As far as i recon the HiMedia Pro models are the best PQ media players available right now. There's a test that concludes that the current Oppos have some PQ deficiency, and same with the current Zidoo models.  I haven't read a Minix U1/U9 PQ test tho. Tho' both the Minix and Zidoo have their own benefits with the dedicated KODI versions, more versatile and tunable stock player app and somewhat more reliable firmwares/support, I'm not 100% convinced to switch from HiMedia at the moment. But if HiMedia continues to lapse with the updates and ignore the important bug fixing, I will end up to ignore them as well and my only option left is switch to a real HTPC. But I guess if one will to compromise a bit with the PQ, than you can get an overall slight better developed and more bug free Android player if you choose either Zidoo or Minix. For me: i won't compromise. Minixes lacking FHD 3D, Egreats have worst firmwares than HiMedia. Zappiti has superior PQ as well, but not much heard regarding the possible bugs and support quality. Upcoming Dune models will be interesting, but that will be a long way to figure out if they worth it... Oh, and there's the new ATV 4K as well, but no HD audio passthrough (shoo-in that this will be solved), and no 3D MVC (promised, but I guess this will never be), even if it is a surprisingly usable media player, with decent PQ and it's -at the moment- exceptional Dolby Vision feature. So there's simply no perfect alternative yet on the market and the only thing that keeps me digging, waiting and away from the HTPC solution is only it's multiplied price.

I've been involved in this industry almost since it began and there's been one constant, the perfect player does not exist. Everything has advantages and disadvantages.

my tv has better streaming apps than android's official, with 4k and dolby vision. for music, again - i'm streaming directly to avr, avoiding sound resampling in flac 96/24, for example.
and q10? is playing my video collection, and is doing this very good.

i think u mean tv with androidtv.
yes, i hv that too, very handy.

while tv's androidtv is better for apps like netflix giivng 4k, etc., it has limitations/restrictions... some apps won't work.
so, it's good to use both to get all of it!

neah, i have an oled from lg, that means webos [html5 apps, mostly] - with native netflix app, supporting 4k and dolby vision.
as i know [corrections plase, if needed], on android this isn't possible

Is it possible to downgrade from 2.07 to 2.06? I tried the USB method but I keep getting an error/knocked over Android guy. I was able to update to 2.08 but can't seem to go backwards. Is it because it doesn't want to update to a lower version? Anyway to fix that? For me 2.06 seemed to run the smoothest without any issues.

Edit: Nevermind. I just realized the update.zip was zipped up. I extracted the update file and all is well. I normally just renamed it myself.

If i skip back within Kodi durin movie playback, kodi hangs nearly each time.
It shows "100% buffering".
If i pause and continue the movie after that, the "100% buffering" dissapears, the progress timer is continuing, but the movie is halted (still picture). I fi leave that situation for several minutes, the movie runs normaly suddenly again.
But i don't want to await that of course.
I need to stop and restart the movie to get a propper playback again.
I decreased the buffer from somewhat 250MB to 70MB size according this site:
https://troypoint.com/stop-kodi-buffering/
But it didn't help.
Does anybody have a idea about this

That happened to me also, the workaround was to use short skip steps only  in the playback settings. I only left -60s to 60s.
