Few questions regarding Q5/Q10 pro

Hi.
I'm looking for a replacement of my (soon to old) Dune Prime 3.0. I've already bought dedicated BD player so all I wanted now is media player. I've tested some cheap box from China based on Amlogic S905 to test out Andorid as a media platform and to check what should I look for in players like that. I'm quite disappointment with with overall experience (many freezes and other stuff) that's why I have few questions regarding Q5/Q10 pro which I think you could help me with.

• First and most important: do they have native Samba support? I know that Kodi can browse local network but I would like to mount my network disk directly into system so every app could browse it.
• I see that support for Kodi will be...well...everyone hopes that there will be one. So will there be hardware support for Kodi so I could play all the codecs directly from it? Without any hassles like audio/video desync, frame skipping etc. For example this cheap media player couldn't play DD5.1 and had problems with passthrough. Which leads us to next question...
• What about passthrough? I don't want mediaplayer to decode audio. I have receiver for that.
• If the only difference between Q10 and Q5 is missing HDD bay and some buttons then I'd rather choose Q5 because it will probably be cheaper. Is that correct? How much cheaper can it be? Because I event don't know if it's woth to wait.

I know that there will be Dune HD Solo 4k but it's quite expensive and I really liked Kodi as a media library.

Six months ago i started to look for something to replace my Dune BD Prime 3.0.
Tested a lot of standalone players and android boxes.
And the right choice was Q54k3D.
This is premiere league with just one team: Himedia.
Go for Q5/Q10Pro.

Thx both of you for your suggestions.

1. This workaround is just plain mount command that needs cifs support in kernel to work. For example Galaxy S5 don't have one. This cheap media box don't have as well. But it's great that it works in Himedia devices.
2. Yes, I've seen this this yes/no situation. Hence the question. The link you've given is interesting but I still don't know what will work directly from Kodi. I'm mostly afraid of DD and passthrough. On the bright side if Hmedia supports SMB in some way or another then at least native player should get access to network.

Q5/Q10 Pro supports 5.1 Dolby Digital AC3 and DTS from any vanilla Kodi 16 or later.

Wrapper required for 7.1 audio (Dolby True-HD and DTS-HD MA).

Q5/Q10 Pro supports most video hardware features direct in any vanilla Kodi 16 or later. Meaning all the most common codecs (MPEG4, AVC, HEVC inc 4K and 10bit, HiMedia ExpressxEngine2..).

Wrapper required for 3D and for working auto frame-rate switching.

So most audio and video chipset features are already implemented in later versions of Kodi. Our product description will be updated this week to reflect this.

Will these wrappers be available to download and install, and will they be easy to set up and implement?
I am currently trying to get my head around Kodi and although some parts of setup seem easy others are proving a real pain to get setup and working.

So basically in order to be as sure as possible that everything will work as intended those wrappers should be available. And are they? Like what will happen when Kodi 17 finally come out?
I think I've seen somewhere that frame rate switching doesn't work. Because I don't want to end up with device that I would have to maintain in order to watch anything...especially that my wife will be using it and all she want to do is click play and watch.

The 'wrapper' is a patch for Kodi that you run once to make Kodi use the HiMedia video player app for certain video formats in place of the Kodi internal player. It is an Android app which you just run, nothing more complicated.

It is compatible with all versions of Kodi, including 17.

The wrapper will be included in Q10/Q5 Pro firmware and will also be available to download from this forum.

Frame rate switching works perfectly (23.976 / 29.70 etc) in Kodi when wrapper is installed.

Without wrapper in Kodi using current firmware output is fixed at box refresh rate as chosen in Android settings. So if you have Android HDMI output set at 1080p 60Hz, all video will output at 60Hz. Full refresh rate switching support in Kodi is a rare thing on Android boxes, but HiMedia are working on it.

With wrapper installed all HD-Audio is passed / downmixed perfectly in Kodi.

Without wrapper HD-Audio is limited to 5.1 channels max. True-HD would give no sound (unless the video file also has a 5.1 Dolby Digital track, which many do) and DTS-HD MA would output the 5.1 DTS core.

1. Yes.
2. Disadvantage is that you get HiMedia player controls (chapters / sound / subtitles etc) instead of Kodi controls so launching the wrapper is a slightly less smooth experience than using Kodi internal player.

How did you manage to run 23.976 fps perfectly?
With my new Q10-Pro I have frame skips and microstutters when I run a testfile or movie with 23.976 1080p H.264.
The very same testfile runs smoothly with my old Mede8er player.

The Q10-Pro is connected to a JVC DLA-X35 Projector through a Marantz SR7010 AVR.

Do you have 24p switched on in Settings - Playback? What does input info say on the JVC, does it report 23.976?
