Technically you could be able to connect a drive, but how do you expect to deal with DRM, Cinavia and Region settings??? Reading Cracked/Decrypted DVD/BD R/W discs only could be supported with the correct drivers which very probably are not included. Is this what you are asking for?
For original DVD/CD ROM discs including region restrictions corresponding licenses are needed which these media players don't have. As they play amongst others also ISO's images and Folders it never may be combined with an official license as this is conflictive. For the same legal reason Full BD-Menus with JAVA can never be supported. A good custom menu is the best what can be offered.
Bottom-line one always needs a real DVD/BD Player to play DVD/BD ROM next to a Media Player. Why bother with such an USB optical drive then?
