MiniMX openELEX not decoding AAC
« on: February 10, 2016, 10:34:05 PM »
Hi all,

Have got a MiniMX openELEC trying to playback some TV shows and I cant get sound from .mkv files using AAC audio encoding.

I passthrough to a Denon AV-R that supports all audio except Atmos and I get nothing. Even if I turn of passthrough and let kodi handle it still no audio.

Spec of this box says it should be fine with AAC so not sure if there is something wrong with the build but it's new out the box today!

All other audio Dolby Digital, Dolby TrueHD and DTS work fine

Any ideas would be grateful.

Thanks

From testing today, output with current firmware (105)seems to be 2.0 max for AAC audio.

In Android with Android player, 5.1 AAC is downmixed to 2.0.

In Android Kodi 16beta, output is downmixed to 2.0 only if you set number of channels to 2.0, otherwise no audio.

In OpenELEC, output is downmixed to 2.0 only if you set number of channels to 2.0, otherwise no audio.

I believe S905 chipset to be capable of 5.1 channel AAC output so will try and find out week when China is back to work why MiniMX is outputting at 2.0 max.

I manage to figure it out.

My settings where wrong found on an old xbmc 13.2 thread on xda-devolpers that when using passthrough it is best to have speaker configuration set to 2.0. Setting the speakers to 2.0 doesn't affect your ability to passthrough 5.1 audio, as this setting essentially does nothing for a passthrough device, but the setting does enable the option to Enable Dolby Digital Transcoding under Dolby Digital (AC3) capable reciever.

Now working like a dream and passthrough at 5.1 not 2.0
