Apparently the only differences I see (reading the specs of each) is the exterior design and that one supports 2.5" disks and the other 3.5".

There are more differences.

Solo 8K has one more USB host port, no USB slave port, coaxial output, RCA output and an external BT antenna.

Capacity of the HDD... other than that - I do not see a difference.
