Zidoo Z1000 Pro Noobie
« on: August 28, 2022, 05:04:00 PM »
Just pulled the trigger on a Z1000 Pro and grabbed a Exos 16TB drive to go with it. I have had a scan of the forums but I couldn`t see anything that tells me what to do and it what order out of the box ?

Format the HDD first (via the Z1000 Pro) , or do a firmware update ?

Do I have to wait until the firmware update is done before putting in recommended base settings ?

Are there any benefits of rooting the Zidoo (I understand the risks and have rooted phones and tablets previously due to a huge distrust of anything google :-) and I do like to tinker ! I have a good idea how Magisk works so no issues there.)

What exactly is Pcristi`s firmware for apart from the obvious DRM L3 support (does it replace the official firmware ?) and is a root required to use it ?

Thanks for putting up with my dumb questions and I`m looking forward to my new toy and tweaking it to just how I want it !!

Format either using the Z1000 Pro or externally. If externally use GPT partition table and EXT or NTFS file system.

I would advise allowing the box to update to latest firmware on first connection to the internet. It should prompt you to do this automatically.

There are no benefits to rooting the box in normal use.

There is no pcristi firmware for the Pro (RTK1619DR) models. He has posted a method to install magisk to get root, but it's not for beginners and can brick the box (in which case invalidating the warranty).
