Subtitles with stronger "Outline" effect
« on: January 10, 2016, 04:21:43 PM »
Hi,

could be implemented such feature : more stroke effect for external subtitles?

In player mode - player menu - Subtitle Options - Font effect - Stroke (it is weak as pixels size),
let's say add Stroke2 and Stroke3 with bigger outline effect.
At the moment by my opinion it is 2 pixels with my choise of font-size = 35 and
it is weak as effect of white black scenes of the movie.

Regards

Even better would be the ability to have black background as is often the case with live TV programmes.

I will pass that request onto Himedia later this week.

Please add me too :)
More subtitle options will be great such as changing the font, more control on stroke effect and more control on color options. Just for these lack of options I have to use the mxplayer. Kodi's own player reaaly sucks at subtitle rendering, for this I don't use it except the trailers.
Thanks in advance.

To add to this, let me make an observation, too: selecting the outline ("Stroke") effect (which is ideal, as that makes the fonts visible on any backgrounds) seems to use a slightly different font color for the interior part of the font - less saturated, more washed out.

For example, it is quite visible if you set the font color to yellow. Without any effect, or with italic, etc., the font color is vibrant, well-defined, properly saturated - definitely yellow. However, if you keep the yellow color but use the outline/stroke effect, the yellow color becomes very washed out, weak - it's almost white.

(As for black backgrounds, as long as that would be a newly added, extra option, it's okay - but certainly not as something added instead of the outline effect, as that would be terrible :).
