Info so far
« on: January 08, 2016, 11:10:48 AM »
There will be new Q10 and Q5. Final names yet to be determined.

Both products will be based on a new Hisilicon Hi3798C V200 SoC, with much upgraded performance compared to HI3798C in Q5/Q10 4K3D. We expect overall performance to exceed anything currently found in Android boxes.

Himedia give launch date as March. Realistically we expect to have stock in April. We should be the first retailer in Europe to have stock. We'll start taking pre-orders when we have a reliable stock arrival date.

Core features from Q5/Q10 4K3D such as 3D-ISO, 7.1 HD-Audio remain.

Significant upgrades include: CPU (now quad ARM A53), GPU (now quad Mali-720), 10bit colour depth support, dual Gigabit Ethernet, 192/24bit audio, and added 4K60 support.

The Himedia/Hisilicion video processing engine that gave the Q5/Q10 4K3D unrivalled image quality is upgraded to version 2.0 with support for 4K60. The new products additionally support Dolby Vision processing. We expect them to have the same or better image quality as Q5/Q10 4K3D.

This is pure speculation but we think it likely that a wrapper solution will be used for Kodi in order to offer all the above features at launch.

The only official piece of media made available from Himedia to date is this spec sheet for the new Q10:

Himedia Q5 Next Generation / V200
Himedia Q10 Next Generation / V200

Waiting with baited breath!!! :D

Present-gen HiMedia Q5/Q10 4K3D is my #1 recommend Kodi 3D player here.

HiMedia, please please change the model # to something like Q100 or Q4K! Too many Q5/Q10 various gen boxes already, confusing to users.

Faster LAN if you have the right network hardware. 2Gbps in theory.

In practical terms I doubt it willl make much difference. With Android boxes there are other parts of the hardware (memory speed, speed of processing incoming data) that act as constraints to throughput. The V200 boxes will not get close to full Gigabit transfer rates, but they might be the best of any Android media box. I'd be happy with that.

Yes, but I believe dazm45 wondered to what use could be put those two Gigabit LAN ports.

One could only speculate that one port could be used for 4k BD streaming (up to 128 Mbps) from a NAS, while the other could be accessing metadata located on a separate NAS.  ???

The UBD spec allows for discs in three sizes:
- 50GB with 82 Mbit/s,
- 66GB with 108 Mbit/s,
- 100GB with 128 Mbit/s.

1 Gbit/s = 1000 Mbit/s per second  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Data_rate_units#Gigabit_per_second

 Gigabit LAN ports it's 8 times bigger  UHD 100GB with 128 Mbit/s.

... very strange  ??? ... it's more helpful 2 HDMI port out
