Internal Storage vs Portable Storage
« on: July 03, 2021, 05:24:56 PM »
Hi, I've been reading about the micro SD card slot on the Dune Real Vision 4K and can see it can be used in one of two ways. Either internal storage for Android or as general portable storage.  This is only my second media player, my Egreat A5 does not have this SD card option.

I'm trying to understand the difference between the two.  My initial idea is internal storage is like adding computer memory whilst portable storage is more like adding a hard drive, but this may not be correct.   if I opted to add internal storage, would this also be used to store downloaded Android apps?

Cheers.

Thanks for confirming my initial thought.  I've orders an SD card but will hold off from using it until I realise how I will need it.  These media players have many features and functions but very little documentation, so it makes these forums very useful.

I actually e-mailed Dune about this feature and the reply was that the unit does not support using an SD card as internal storage only as portable storage.  However, I've just found the option under device preferences in setup!  Either the person does not know their own product or they don't want people to use the System settings.  I shall reply letting them know I have found it.  It will be interesting to read their reply.

I think they gave the right answer: The Dune media player does not support it despite the 2nd OS supported being Android TV does allow to configure it for that OS. In effect there is no practical use for it. Simply a missed opportunity, but may be not easy to deploy it that way.

I only wonder why they included that SD-Slot at all? I have some other older media players using it for a Dual Boot option: OpenElec for KODI or Enigma2 with tuners as alternatives for using just Android.

Ah! I see, and yes there does not seem to be any use for it, especially as it's easier to use a USB stick than fiddling about inserting the micro SD card.  Yes, a missed opportunity.  The SD card I've just bought will now be used on something else where it's more useful.
