Why is my Q10Pro software so old ..?
« on: May 16, 2021, 11:16:34 AM »
I bought my Himedia Q10Pro in March 2017.

Since then I have always tried to keep it updated to the latest version of the software.

However, I have always had many problems with the sound, limited to 48KHz, strange crashes, a lot of problems with Kodi...

The CPU is a monster, Hisilicon Hi3798CV200 Cortex-A53 Quad Core 1.6GHz, for ultra-HD and 4Kp60 fps decoding. Integrated with a quad-core 64-bit Arm Cortex A53 processor and NEON, Hi3798CV200 is built for the DVB.

A very modern and complete equipment that nevertheless works with a 32Bits software, incredible, the benefits that are still presented in advertising praise the advantages of a 64Bits CPU compared to that of 32. What good are 64 bits if the software runs over 32?

It's like having a PC with a next-gen I7, 32GB of ram, 1Tb SSD HD, running Windows 95.

I have checked all the versions of the Kernel that include in the updates, they all have the same amount of bits, from what I understand that they are the same. For this reason I understand that you are running a 32Bit kernel that has not been updated in years, the only thing that has been done is to wash its face a bit to change its appearance a little.

The truth is, I am very disappointed with my Himedia Q10Pro, I bought a multimedia equipment with many possibilities for the future, with a powerful 64Bit processor in which I cannot use software with more than 32 bits.

I am looking for a replacement.

It is hardware that is over 4 years old.  It started life with Android 5.

Firmware 2.1.7 is not that old and is from late last year (Android 7 update 17).  It is much better than many media players of that age that simply have not got many updates!
Yes, it is 32bit but it still plays all 4K media that is currently available (very well), including HDR.

If you want something more up-to-date, perhaps look at what Futeko is currently selling?  There are quite a few alternatives.

Anyway even all current Android based media players still run an 32-bit OS. Is 64-bit better?

Moving to 64-bit makes it faster? Not really as I measured this with my W10 PC going from 32-bit to 64-bit. What it for sure does is increasing the memory usage which almost doubles. The real advantage is a lot more memory can be installed as the 3,2 GByte limit is removed. That extra memory can next be used effectively running 64-bit versions of any APP's installed.
Does that make sense for a media player and 32-bit APP's running on it with 2 Gbyte RAM (some got 4 Gbyte)? For sure it doesn't.

With my new PC W10 motherboard had no choice as ASUS did not make 32-bit drivers for it anymore. The change required a full new install. No easy upgrade 32-bit => 64-bit available.

Exactly. I think Coreelec is an almighty device.
