Q10 Pro Display lights and Stops Playback
« on: March 02, 2021, 10:33:35 AM »
Himedia Q10 pro displays light intermittently and stops playback. This stays for around 2 - 5 minutes, and sometimes recur several times. When it stops - I can resume playback.

I'm running HMD-2.1.4 2019-05-31.171152. Is there a turnaround? Tried to search online but seems an isolated case. Am I facing end-of-shelf symptoms? Used this gadget since 2017.

Please share how you resolve if you encounter same situation.  :)

Do you have an internal hard drive? Maybe it's the power supply, try another one.

See my post under general topic. I’m having the same problem but it’s looping on the boot. It’s also hot 2.1.4 cfw, but that’s a misnomer, I’m trying to get another plug as somebody ( cannot find, but a poster on here, thanks) on here suggested that... Don’t know if it the same, but appears both dance to the same tune.

What is color of light, white or red? Does it also light up the rest of the buttons on the front panel? If the led is red, replace the power supply. If the LED is flashing white, reinstalling the firmware (paper clip method, but, you will lose all saved data in the box flash memory)  may help.

It's flashing white, including rest of the buttons.  Will reinstall the firmware as suggested. Thanks. I'll update if it's restored.

Reinstalled firmware and issue's happening more frequent, and with front display lights will stay on longer than before firmware was reinstalled. After around 5- 8 minutes, it stops. Then sometimes will happen again after 30 mins. Am I seeing end of life of Q10 Pro? There seems to be no turnaround based on my searches online. So sad.

"Bladecutter" I have bumped into the same problem, until I couldn't turn on the Q10 Pro one day after. When I turned around the small round plug (from the power supply) to the connection from the HiMedia Q10 Pro, it started turning off and on again with the same issues as you mentioned with the display. So I cleaned the small round plug and the "power connection input" from the Q10 Pro with alcohol and sprayed a little contactspray from Philips or any reliable brand to get rid of the erosion from the internal connections.
PROBLEM SOLVED! ! ! Please, let me know if it works for you.....

Yes It's true what you say, but honestly, only replacing the power socket will give you the long-term result. Contact spraying is only a temporary solution. If the coating on the contacts is already damaged and you need to replace the power socket in the box with a new one. In addition, a solid check under load, the power of the external power supply. The power supply must be stable at 1.6 A / 12V all the time.

Thanks "Nandish", I was hoping indeed on a long term with the idea of cleaning with alcohol and using contactspray. Unfortunately according your opinion that wouldn't be the case. So, as long as it works I'm happy. I'm not sure how and where to order this connection. I'm not able to buy anything from E bay, Alibaba or Amazon here in North East Thailand.

Thank you for the suggestions.

SO yesterday I found a WD40 contact cleaner and sprayed the contact points from the device and the socket as well. I think the issues were caused by power supply connections between adaptor and device socket because there were times when after using Q10 I would disconnect power supply by removing the socket. I also noticed that if I used a 12v/2 Ampere power adaptor - Q10 is more stable. Using the 12V/1.5 AMp that goes with the Q10 unit still produces more backlight issues, sometimes longer even after it was sprayed with contact cleaner.

I will observe more and update you guys. For now - front display lights were encountered less frequent, around twice with only 10 sec duration last night using the 12v/2 Amp power supply. :)

Yes bladecutter, I forgot to mention that I'm using for almost 3 years a 12V/3 Ampere power adaptor, with some issues which experienced years ago. Great to hear about to keep us updated!
After so many years, this is still a GREAT forum with a lot of useful support!

I bought new adaptor 12V 2A to ensure the connection points between the Q10 pro and power supply are refreshed, and hoping that lights issue will be minimized.

After 5 minutes running - issue still happening with the new adaptor. I guess it has something to do with the unit's power supply (small hole). Now I'm seriously thinking to retire this unit and get a new replacement.

Unless someone out there can suggest new ways to fix this. :) I own this unit since 2016 - too early to let go.

I'm actually curious when if you turn around the small plug from your adaptor directly in the connection from the Q10 Pro, you notice the display goes on and off? Doing so will give you the answer that the small power input connection is damaged. Maybe there is a way to replace the small power connection, by yourself or a qualified technician in your area.
I bought the Himedia Q10 Pro in August 2016 and it has served me well until now. It is still a pleasure to watch movies, concerts, 4k video, and streaming content as well.
Please keep us informed about your progress.
