Total newbie asking for help to get started
« on: December 30, 2015, 06:18:36 PM »
I just got an Octa H8 box. A local vendor told me that everything was there to watch TV. Yeah, right.

I connected the box to the TV. I can see folders and files. But what's next? I guess, like with any Android I'd need some apps. Which ones? Where to get them from? How to download into the box? I did some search, but the more I search, the more I confused. This whole concept of getting channels through the box is totally new for me. I need some links to the basics to get me started.

Your help will be greatly appreciated.

H8 is supplied with a clean install of Android,  Kodi, plus other apps like Youtube/Chrome etc.

When you say 'watch TV' it could mean various things.

Most TV channels now have Android apps (in the UK, BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub etc). These can usually be installed for free from Play Store. Go to Play Store icon on home screen, log into / sign up for a Google account, and install the apps.

Kodi can be used to watch all sorts of media content, much of which is pirated. Discussion of which is not allowed on this forum.

Go in KODI and then video, addons...
"Get more addons"
Find "channels" most will work if you are in the same country or using VPN. KODI repository only shows legal add ons. So these can be discussed here.

KODI have a good support forum and wiki pages if you want to get started using KODI. Of course, google what you dont understand.

Go Kodi - Video - Add-ons - Get more... and you should get a list of video add-ons starting with (19-FEB-2016 in the UK) '3B Meteo'.

That's tested just now with a clean install of firmware 1.0.9.

From a clean install of 1.0.9?

i.e. install using the reset button on the back of the H8 as described in our firmware thread: http://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?topic=527.0
