Advice to replace Q10 Pro
« on: November 08, 2020, 05:52:42 PM »
Of late I haven’t been using my Q10 too much, mainly due to buggy software issues.
I don’t feel like going through the hassle again to get the 2.1.7 update.
At this point I’m looking to replace this device.

I have had an eye on the Z1000, but considering the hefty price tag I’m not sure I want to pull the trigger on that one.

Main object with this new device: 4K films, playing from ISO containers, HiRes music files like DSD through to external DAC hooked up to 2-channel audio setup.

And, quite important, I want to stream this from my pc elsewhere in the house. The Q10 is horrendous in this respect. Network shares which used to be fine suddenly can’t be found, until later they can.
I really want a reliable device for this. If not the Z1000, then which one?

Any input highly appreciated!

The coming Dune HD Pro 4K II Plus should be an alternative running HiBy with BT remote control for an USB DAC. Less features but very stable on the other hand.

You could consider using the media player as a NAS Server at the same time within the house. This works for me. I use the PC to do filemanagement via SMB Client on it (so reversed).

You may read my stuff here and on the Zidoo forum for many details.

Yes, I know the feeling  >:(! I've upgraded to the Z1000 Pro and am loving it  ;D. The extra cost was certainly well-spent in my opinion. It has everything I need and the Zidoo Home Theatre app makes Kodi look like a cheap Windows 3 app  ;D!

Other people are still having problems with Dolby Vision though, but I'm not interested in that as I always buy Samsung TVs.

Thanks for the replies! Much appreciated! @maelor @Nice Monkey

Dolby Vison would come in handy, though, because I have a Sony TV.

Alternatively, what about the Z10? It doesn't seem to be that much different from the Z1000 in features  The difference in price, however, must come from somewhere.

Build in better PSU, Internal antennas, better Remote and it looks a lot fancier.

Functionally 100% identical to Z10 Pro and firmware wise to even the Z9X too.

The PSU could matter a lot.

For my Q10 I bought a better PSU because the standard wire which the device comes with is unable to support an internal HD and two attached USB drives. Constant freezes are the result.

To be honest, in my living room the Z10 colour would be better suited, but I could live with the Z1000

Easy to check if the PSU is sized as needed.

Pulled the trigger on the Z1000 Pro.

Huge difference compared to the Q10. Huge.
Far better image quality.

Looking for shares: a breeze. Found all drives including several hard drives in pc upstairs without a problem. Even subtitle download works! Never worked in Q10.
In the next days I’ll focus on audio.

So far I’m happy.

Bonjour. Vous me confirmez que la qualité hdr est supérieure au q10pro?
Merci.
I will try in english.
Could you confirm that HDR mode is better than emprex engine on himedia q10 pro?
I would like to be sure that image quality improves compare to himedia.
Thanks.

I think I've already given you an answer by email, and I'm not the best person to answer this anyway being as I sell Zidoo, but with the proviso that image quality is subjective, then... yes.

The HiMedia HiSilicon products had really excellent picture quality which the Realtek 1619DR Zidoos match generally and beat with 4K HDR/HDR10+/Dolby Vision content, particularly when using the Dolby Vision VS10 engine.

It really is subjective though, you will find more opinions on AVforum, AVSforum etc.
