Dune HD Pro 4K II Plus
« on: September 21, 2020, 08:03:04 PM »
They are a bit later than originally said but here it is "HD Pro 4K Plus II"
https://www.dune-hd.com/products/dune-hd-pro-4k-plus-II
Frankly always liked the Plus version a lot more and this is no exception.

The improvements are well specified compared with the previous Plus model. Not mentioned is that also 1x USB2 port and the SD-Card slot were actually dropped too.

Interesting unexpected specification (asked Dune for it myself):
Stereo and multichannel SACD playback
You can play top quality Super Audio CD (DSD) music files in all any popular formats  (ISO, DFF, DSF), including both stereo and multichannel files (with even DST decompression). Multichannel SACD files will be output as multichannel PCM to HDMI. The next and final step would be optional DSD native output.

Hardly can imagine MCH SACD via HDMI is only for this model?
Even stranger the bundled remotes are now labeled "discontinued" as accessories. Or is this to make them exclusive for this model?
The Dune strategy occasionally escapes me but coming with Dual HDMI Output does make a lot of sense with many (even recent) AMP's not passing HDR10+.

Missing on the audio front is support for DVD-Audio with playback of the high resolution MLP audio tracks.
For now only the DVD-Video compatible audio tracks can be played (if present). Also applies to Zidoo equivalent players by the way.

Asked Dune these 3 questions and will share their answers here:
Hello,
We will be able to answer your questions about Pro 4K Plus II after production is completed and when they go on sale.

I see it will be sold here too:
https://www.futeko.com/products/MP111.php
Now with price and availability date.

Small mistake in the specifications there: I don't see that SD-Card slot, neither RS232 (previous model had one indeed).

And another small correction: External USB is specified differently on 2 locations actually both being almost correct.
In fact it is better than specified on either place.  ;)

External Storage should be according Dune:
USB 3.1 x1,  USB Type-C x1, USB 2.0 x2
- USB 3.0 Type-C can be used in Host and Slave modes typically but mostly is used as Slave
- 3 USB ports are on the back and one USB2.0 is to be found on the front

Sorry but I am precise in those things. 8)

Based on my good experience with the Realbox this higher model almost meets the mark for replacing my Cambridge Audio CXUHD as primary player in my system. Only issue is that the display clock will only show time elapsed on a movie and not time remaining. It’s a small point but important to me. I’ve been asking Dune to implement this for years and they have not. Even less reliable marques like Zidoo can do this. Pity.

This must be the media player with shortest lifetime ever.
Dune HD Pro Vision 4K Solo with RTD1619DR now replaced it.
https://www.dune-hd.com/products/dune-hd-pro-vision-4k-solo
Stated so also on the Dune site officially.
https://www.dune-hd.com/products/dune-hd-pro-4k-plus-ii

Has been superseded just after first shipments took place. Anything shorter is impossible.

I placed an order for a Dune HD Pro 4K Plus II on the 21st of November 2020. I received the box the day before Xmas Eve.

Step forward only 1 month when I discover that Dune have discontinued the model I purchased and are selling an improved model under the name Dune HD Pro Vision 4K Solo.

The price of the new model is identical to the price of the “old” model and the specifications are identical with the exception that the new model has Dolby Vision - a feature that I wanted, but never thought was just around the corner when I placed my order.

Is that really any way to treat customers?

We were caught out as much as our customers, and I can only apologise.

Futeko could have offered to take back my unit being less than 1 month old, but instead offered a puny 18% discount on buying the newer model. That won’t make me buy from them again.

If Futeko were caught out by Dune as they say and had no prior knowledge a new unit was coming out (which is very hard to believe as they are Dune's premier UK outlet) then they should have taken up the case of people like me (only a handful I suspect) up with Dune on our behalf.

I tend to agree that Dune should have swapped these units for free or a small fee.

I am even wondering if it is legal doing what they did? But giving support on it maybe it is?
