Transferring files to internal HDD
« on: March 19, 2020, 02:16:15 AM »
I've got a 30TB internal HDD in my Q10 Pro, is it possible to transfer movie files to it over the network via my laptop.

Yes, but it will take a rather long time to do so, compared to connecting it via USB 3 as a slave unit.

I think you meant 3TB, not 30TB. If not, where can one get these 30TB drives?

There are several ways to do this:

1. Enable Samba server on Q10 Pro. You can then see all storage attached to Q10 Pro by searching for the Samba share on a PC. On the Q10 Pro enable Samba at Settings - More - SAMBA Service - Start.

2. Browse for Samba/NFS share created on a PC/NAS/Mac. Use the Q10 Pro media browser, file manager, or any third party file explorer app support local networks.

3. Use a USB cable. Q10 Pro internal SATA HDD will appear as a USB drive when Q10 Pro is attached to PC by USB type B to USB type A cable (like a typical USB printer cable).

4. Install an FTP server on Q10 Pro.

What I'm doing is going to My PC in Windows, right click mouse than add new Network Drive, but sadly somehow it doesn't seem to find the Himedia drive on the network and yet it's connected to my router.

You can't just connect the PC and the Himedia box just because they are both connected to the same router. It's not as easy as that!

You must use one one of the above methods Futeko suggested above: 1+2 or 3 or 4.

If you are going to use Samba (1+2 above): You have to follow instructions 1 on the Himedia end (but do NOT set a Samba password in Android yet!). Then follow instructions 2 on the PC.

What version of Windows do you have? You may have to witch SMB on in Windows also?

I have the following laptops:

1. Dell XPS 15 running Windows 10 Pro
2. Dell XPS 13 running Windows 10 Pro
3  Samsung Galaxy Book 12" Running Windows 10 Home
4. HP Spectre Envy running Windows 7 Home, this laptop now is quite a few years old but I still use it, I know now MS is not supporting Win 7.

You see basically what I want to do is to add the Himedia internal drive as an add on network drive to my network, which can be seen in the My Computer part of the Desktop. Basically in the add network location. I know someone I have done this before long time ago but now I cant seem to get it to show up.

The instructions from Futeko will allow you to rip a DVD or CD on a computer and then transfer the files to the HiMedia HDD. That is what I do.

Now it sounds like you want to play videos stored on your HiMedia HDD on all of your laptops/desktops? I have no interest is this.

No I think you have it wrong, I dont want to watch the moves etc on my laptop screen I want to watch them on my OLED Tv's (65" Panasonic OLED or 55" Hisense OLED). What I want to do is to transfer the file from my laptop to the internal HDD of my Hisense Q10 Pro Media Player, than play the movie or what ever from the internal HDD of the Q10 Pro to the one OLED TV. Hope this makes sense.

This is the same matter I would like to try as well for over a year now. Unfortunately my Fiberoptic router doesn't allow me to set up a home network! I do have 3BB Mesh Fiberoptic in Thailand since January 2020. The previous modem/router, and the one I have currently doesn't have these features. Also the USB ports didn't work at both  I'm very curious about the answers.

Duthcie a long time ago I was able to map all my network drives to my laptop eg my Cloud Drives and also the Himedia Q10 Pro would also show up under network drives, but somehow not I cant, when I go to Map Network drive, somehow my laptop does not at all find any of my cloud drives, not sure what is going on. Yet again my Network Drives are all connected to a Router/Switch (Netgear Prosafe).

Are you using windows 10? If so the issue is the samba version in windows, search the forum, there are posts about it

I'm using Windows 10. But what I would like very much is to connect my 1 TB HDD to my modem/router and play content on my smartphone or pc at my home. It didn't work with my previous modem/router, and it probably won't work with the current one too, because those USB ports are wasteless! For example, a smartphone doesn't have much memory, so I would like to play music in another room or outside the house from my home network. I've just tried to make some screenshots from my home network etc. but I can't get it done to make some screenshots. I will Google it first and will keep everyone updated.

Have you accessed the router's configuration? There's probably some settings there regarding those usb ports

Yes, I have checked de router's menu. But nothing about how to configure USB ports. I have discussed this with the Internet provider, but they have no idea about any features or connections! Most of the people here in Thailand have the knowledge from a 12 year old child, and whatever their age, they refuse to develop themselves. With various matters I bumped into discussions which have never solved any problems.
It's frustrating that I can't get my home network done.
