The new AV1 codec
« on: February 07, 2020, 02:56:02 PM »
Can the Q10Pro playback AV1 codec type files using either the inbuilt media player or perhaps Kodi? If not will there be an update in order that this codec can be played.
Thanks

I guess not, at least not on hardware level as it's not implemented. Maybe the processor would be strong enough to decode it in software if it's not at high bitrates, but I guess it would also need changes in the stock Playback application. Maybe it can do (in some level) with third party apps like MXPlayer, but I very doubt it with KODI.

Looking up for some samples and check, that I report back with results.

Rockchip: Future SoC RK3588 seems to support 4K at 60fps
Allwinner: No information about the implementation.
MediaTek: The new Dimensity 1000 SoC supports 4K @ 60 fps.
Realtek: SoC RTD1311 up to 4K and RTD2893 up to 8K.
Hisilicon: No information on implementation.
