Just got my H8 won't display 1080p?!

I just got my HiMedia H8 today, hooked up to my Pioneer Plasma and tried 2 different HDMI 2.0 cables and it only displays in 720p. It did this when I first turned it on......and after doing a firmware upgrade to the newest. I tried changing in the settings a few time to 1080P 60 and goes right back to 720p wth?!? Any ideas? It's gotta be the box or the hardware, I've got a Kdlinks and wdtv live and both show in 1080p. Was really hoping for great things with this unit, beginning to have huge doubts.....thanks in advance.

The ONLY setting it will let me change is either 720p 60hz or 480p 60hz.........I'm thinking it's NOT firmware issue but that cheap HDMI hardware was put into this unit. EVERY media box that I've hooked up shows 1080 right away........Grrrrr. So frustrated at this point. It's a great unit, but this is kinda a big deal. What's the use of buying one of these units with all the bells and whistles for HD or 4k if it will only let you see crappy display resolution.

Just a small check....

After selecting 1080P, did you press 'OK' on your remote? I forgot that myself before and of course the settings wasn't applied

We've had no other reports of similar problems so the problem is unlikely to be the H8 hardware.

Saying that, where did you buy it from? I'm interested just in case it's a fake.

To change output resolution go Settings - Display.

Alternatively go Settings - More - Display - HDMI Mode.

The difference between the two is that the first will only show modes the H8 thinks your TV is compatible with whilst the second shows all modes.

If you can't change mode successfully using the second method please try removing anything between H8 and TV (e.g. receiver, switch) and try changing HDMI cable.

I've tried all the settings and still only gives the 2 display options (720 and 480) but obviously this unit is a fake. I got it from Wangang on Amazon. I'm pretty pissed about this. Even from the second option I directly choose 1080P 60hz from the list of options, the screen goes black a couple times then goes right back to only 720p.
Ugh.
There are 2 different chip versions on amazon as well, the rockchip version and the cortex version........which one is legit?

I also tried 3 different hdmi cables normal and 2.0 with no luck, are there any other signs I can look for being a fake? Clearly I'll be sending the unit back.......

Also, shouldn't the H8 play h.265 files?? I tried 8 different ones and won't play any of them.... Lame!

Can you post a photo of the underside of the box?

I'm not saying it's definitely a fake but there's clearly something wrong with it because it's performing very differently to normal H8 Octas..

There was a Himedia H8 model from a few years ago (based on much older different hardware) and I'm thinking maybe the Amazon seller is selling these mistakenly (or misleadingly?) as the new H8 Octa..

You can chance it choosing "Settings" 720 is the default value. You can rund 1080 50hz and 108060 hz (thats what I get in the menu)
 
Make sure your Display supports 1080...

The reason I ask is that most of the Pioneer Plasma screens where 720p, if I remember right the only had some 1080p models the last two years, so the model number gives a good hint when troubleshoot starts.

I've had this Pioneer Plasma for about 8 years, it's a 1080p model. I've ALWAYS played anything on it at 1080 without a problem. I sent that H8 back and ordered another and just got it........hooked it up and STILL only at 720p. I'm pissed at this point having this happen again.......these guys have got to be selling fakes. I took pics of the underside and of the box it came in. I also hooked up my kdlinks and wdtv boxes again, and they both work at 1080 with no problem.
I tried sending pics, but this site won't let me upload......tried several times.......can't anything work right
