Dolby Issues all over
« on: December 16, 2015, 10:15:10 PM »
Hi,

Received my H8 yesterday. Updated the box to the latest fw. I have a Sony STR-DB940 receiver which plays all 5.1 formats since years.

The issue: I can't hear audio with any Dolby 5.1 file. My receiver is on 'auto format decode' which basically means it's auto detecting the type of signal. Works like a charm with all previous media players I owned. With certain files if I change the receiver mode to '2CH Stereo' sound starts to be audible. Other files just won't cooperate.

DTS on the other hand works flawlessly. Huge bluray files with DTS, no problem.

My Android settings: - playback through spdif.

Kodi settings: 'passthrough' and selected 'AC3' and 'DTS' capable receiver.

Already resetted the box with the resett button.

My series collection is huge and the vast majority is in Dolby. So any idea what's causing this? At a certain point I assumed probably some of the files are sent as 'PCM' but usually my receiver shows that on the display which isn't the case now.

Hopefully someone has the answer! Cheers.

Hi  zeusje

Are you using kodi or the hi media internal player.?

Are you getting the same results using both kodi and himedia player.?

Hi Mort,

Indeed, with both players :( I also tried 2 different toslink cables and different input connectors on my receiver.

BTW, just to be sure, when you perform a hard reset shouldn't all the applied settings in Kodi be resetted as well? After my hard reset all my downloaded apps etc were gone but for a reason the passthrough settings were still in place in Kodi.

Ideally you should reinstall firmware rather than doing a factory reset. The factory reset loses some Himedia system apps.

Settings for S/PDIF are as follows:

Thank you Futeko. I will double check these settings later today, but I'm pretty sure they are setup like that already. I will perform a firmware reinstall as well just to be sure I did everything in my powers to fix this issue. Will update today.

OK, so I installed the latest fw again just after booting the device.

Unfortunately this hasn't solved my problem. The only way for me to hear audio is to change the 'passthrough' option to 'off'. But at that moment it's a stereo PCM stream.

In your screenshots I noticed to see in the bottom left corner 'Expert' settings level, but mine says 'Advanced'. I have Kodi 15.2 rc2. All settings are like yours in the screenies.

At this point I'm run out of options. Are there any left for me to check? Thanks.

I will return this unit and go for the safe option: Q5.

I can't help any further, sorry.

S/PDIF will be improved in future firmware.
