External Hard Drive Capacity
« on: August 17, 2019, 01:57:18 AM »
Right now I'm using a few old Seagate portable drives (1 x 2TB and 1 x 4TB).  Can you hook up an 8TB or 6tB AC adapter powered drive...like a WD MyBook?

I figured I would ask here, rather than create a new topic.

What is the highest capacity external hard drive compatible with the Q10 pro?

I have an external 6tb hard drive hooked up with no problem.  I'm trying to use a 14tb external hard drive and I when I try to copy a movie over to the new drive, I keep getting an error that no space is available.

The hard drive is a WD WDBWLG0140HBK-NESN hard drive.  It is formatted NTFS and the Q10 pro is on the latest firmware.

I think 8TB is the max. But.. I've seen boxes that work with HDDs with a higher capacity that's rated for them. You can try to format the box to exfat on your PC, or maybe even try dividing your drive to two NTFS partitions and see if it helps.
Let us know.

This is most likely an Android O/S issue and is often experienced with internal HDD's not showing their capacity correctly after files are deleted.  Remember the O/S is designed for phones and tablets, so a large drive is not expected.  The 14Tb drive should work ok, if NTFS formatted.
Plug the external drive into a PC and copy over your files that way.

I run 16TB Seagate Exos drives internally and externally. GPT. NTFS. 4K clusters. Single partition.

No problem.

Connect up the external 14TB drive to a Windows box and run chkdsk /f from a command shell running admin rights.

I just wanted to follow up.

I hooked up my 14tb external hard drive (WD WDBWLG0140HBK-NESN) to my PC and copied the files over.  Then, I hooked it back up to the Q10 pro.  Every file seems to be recognized by the Q10 pro and all of the files I've tested play without any issue.  The drive is formatted NTFS (formats to 12.7 TB) and I copied approx 9TB onto the drive.

So, anyone in the market to expand their storage, you can use a 14tb external hard drive.

I have HGST 10TB (HUH721010ALN600) drive and no matter what I did, still not recognized by Q10 Pro.

HUH721010ALN600 is 4k Native, will not recognize on HiSilicon Android 7 box(HiMedia Q10Pro/Egreat A10/A11/Dinobot U5PVR/etc.).
Always try HDD with 512 Emulation similar to HUH721010ALE600.

Is your drive auto mount when boot up?  I have internal Seagate EXOS 12TB but it's not auto mount.  It's there under /mnt/media_rw/sda1.

I do not know what you mean. My internal drive is always there (as sda2) unless I connect the Q10 Pro to a PC with USB cable, at which point sda2 unmounts and becomes slave to PC. As soon as I disconnect from PC it remounts as sda2.
