Replacement Power Cord
« on: July 16, 2019, 09:50:50 PM »
I need a replacement power cord.  Not sure what happened but the power cord on my son's Q10 is no longer working and will not power the HDD.  When I swap it out with mine it works but when I use his, it only powers the device without HDD support.

I know the stock power adapter is under-powered so I am looking to get a better replacement preferably through Amazon.

Any suggestions?

You can use any 12V PSU rated for at least 2A with tip size 5.5 x 2.1 with center pin positive.

Thank you for your response.

This is not true because I also attempted to use another 12V with 4A with that tip size and it did not work in either mine or my sons.  The PSU worked fine in powering an external HD I have but did not work on the Q10.

That is why I was asking for specific ones that were known to be good.  I already spent money buying that one and I don't want to buy another and have the same issue.

It is true, are you sure the 4A PSU is center pin positive? Does yours that's working powers the external HD?

I can use my Q10 cord to power the external hard drive.   I can use my q10 power cord to power my son's q10.  The replacement cord I bought powers the external hd no problem and is center positive.  It will not power either Q10.

Did you bought it from a reputable seller? Can you upload a photo of it?
I can assure you that any 12V power supply that can deliver 2A (recommended but should work with 1.5A) and with the correct plug with the same internal and external diameter will work.

I agree with STL. Any 12V PSU rated for at least 2A with tip size 5.5 x 2.1 with center pin positive will work.

Voltage has to be 12V, the tip dimensions have to be 5.5x2.1 with center positive, but amperage can be anything higher than 2A because the box will only draw what it needs.

Yes it should have but it didn't, which is why I was asking for recommendations from here for another one that someone may have bought and been successful with.

Are you tried using the adapter? The plugs are different...

Yes. I know how to change the plugs.

The cord DOES NOT WORK for the Q10 to power the HDD, it does power the device on and I can use it to access files remotely on my LAN but the internal HDD does not show up and is not powering up.  It works for all other devices I have tried it on included my old KDLinks HD720 and 2 separate external Hard Drives.  It is only on the Q10's that the cord does not fully work.

I am not looking for troubleshooting, I am looking for specific recommendations on replacement cords that have successfully been used for the Q10.  Maybe no one who is looking at this board has bought one.

I appreciate the responses. Thank you.
