DVD ISO - Playback Video/Audio out of Sync
« on: July 03, 2019, 12:34:48 PM »
Hi all, new Q10 Pro 4K user here.  New to Android Kodi etc so bare with me.  Coming from KDLinks HD720 world.  My movies are nearly all ISO BD and DVD rips.  I swapped out my 4TB HD from the KD Links and put it in the Q10 Pro. - No issues recognizing the drive.  Did a FW update - unit has Android 7.  Running it through a Denon AVR-X1500.  Ran movie from both Kodi and the native player in Media Center.  Observation - DVD ISO playback has unwatchable audio/video sync issues.  Audio pass through worked fine.   I read tons of posts here about DVD ISO menu issues but didn't see anything about sync troubles when running through KODI or the native player.  Am I missing a setup setting??

BD playback seemed fine on first attempt - BD ISO of Aquaman played fine - Dolby Atmos etc. all good.

Any advise or guidance would be appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

No one has this issue?  Is there a preferred format to use instead of ISO? i.e MKV etc?

Also never heard of such a scale of sync issue specially with DVD's. Maybe it's some setup mismatch with your AVR. Check DD and DTS settings. And DON't use KODI for any kind of video playback,  only the native HiPlayer (with Wrapper optionally).

You can easily convert DVD's to lossless .MKV's with MakeMKV on PC, I would try that first.

80fps is impossible. For DVD's (and for all interlaced videos, so interlaced MKV's included) usually with 29.97fps, the most correct output frequency would be 59.94Hz, but on HiMedia 60Hz is the closest you can get. For pal 25fps DVD's it's 50Hz. You need to turn off 24 Hz (Auto frame rate) mode and manually switch to these freques before playback. Sticking with the half of the original interlaced frame rate results in half as fluid motion resolution.

I didn't believe it either but when playing the ISO and bringing up the menu screen in the top left corner where it says Video it clearly stated 80fps.  I cant find the setting to turn off 24Hz either with the latest FW.  Is this now called HDMI frame adaption or something like that?  If so I do have it turned off.  Makes no difference in my playback of ISO but like I said MKV shows the proper playback of 29.97.  Weird.

Are you sure it's the HiMedia Player? Is it just with one or with all of your 29.97fps DVD's?

You can still turn off 24Hz mode during playback bringing up the menu, it must be there called Auto framerate adaptation (or similar).  It's odd that they removed in 2.1.4 from the normal Settings menu, btw.

HDMI auto adapt is a completely different thing and the best it to turn it OFF.

What does your TV/AVR info show when you playback with (let's say) 80fps?

I've only tested two DVD ISOs - Angels and Demons and Da Vinci Code.  Both play at 80fps according to the info screen (right arrow button on remote).  My test TV is a Vizio LED 720p - no AVR in line.  I did experience the same issues when I first swapped out the HD from the KD Links from my main setup - Panasonic 60VT60/Denon AVR-X1500.  I figured I needed to get the "bugs" sorted out before the Q10 became my main media player so moved it to a"test" environment in another room - Vizio.  I noticed some stutter with the MKV files as well - no where as smooth playback as with the KDLinks.  I guess I could just start replacing the DVD ISOswith BD but that will take me some time as I do have quite a few on the HD.
The subtitle issue is also a concern.  I may just sell or "regift" the Q10 and try to keep the KDLinks going as long as I can.
