3D Playback - right glass flickers out off sync
« on: June 22, 2018, 09:38:38 AM »
Hello,

I ran into a problem with playback of 3D Movies. The right glass seems to be out of sync. It flickers every other second.

The Set-Up:

Player | HiMedia Q5 Pro OFW 2.0.8 FUTEKO. HMD-2.0.8 2018-04-04 using the MediaCenter with autoresolution/framerate add-on.
A/V Receiver | Onkyo TX-NR747
Projector | Sony VPL-VW360ES
Glasses | Pair of HiShock 3D-BT Pro Deep Heaven and a Pair of HiShock RF Pro Black Diamond 3D

The problem occurs on all four glasses - it's always the right glass that flickers.

I tried a different player - the sony ubp x1000es and it worked without a hitch. So I think it's a problem with the q5 pro.

Did someone experience a similar problem? Does anyone have a solution or atleast a hint?

Kind regards
DrDoOm

Hello,

i figured out a similar problem on my setup (Optoma HD36 and Q5pro with Onkyo Tx-SR444).
But for me the switching of the input source doesn't help (i tried an sony Bluray Player).
You can try to use another input of your Beamer. I solved my Problem with an HDMI to DVI converter (both are digital so its an easy passive converter) because my projector doesn't have a second HDMI port. You can try another HDMI port or the DVI option and see if the problem disappear. The flickering occured on the right eye only for me. So maybe there is a sync problem with HDMI.
Hope it helps.

Greetings

This seems like an HDMI port problem. That's also the easiest to fix, so I hope it's that. Good luck, DrDoOm.

Dear Eumel, Dear Hudak,

I've been on a business trip the last two weeks.

Last weekend I tested your suggestions, but it didn't help. I changed the HDMI Port of the Beamer, even changed the HDMI Cable, but it didn't help.
Sadly I didn't have a HDMI-DVI Converter, so I will try this at a later point. Will 4k HDR playback work with the adaptor?

At last I booted up my old RPi3 with Libreelec. 3D Playback (Frame-Packing) without a flaw and no flickering glasses.

Kind Regards
DrDoOm

As it seems to be rather a firmware related issue, wouldn't be easier to switch back to another firmware (like the 2.0.6, which I would suggest)?

I think you're first suggestion was right and we have to search on the Q5 Pro what's causing the problem.
The adapter will NOT work with HDR and 4k. I think the lack of  bandwidth and the transport of the HDR metadata are the problem with dvi. But 1080p and 3D will work with dvi.
Try Mount81's solution so we can see if it's a software or a hardware problem which causes the problem. Since 2.0.6 himedia didn't fix important things so it isn't a problem to temporarily stay at this firmware.

Fingers crossed the possible solution works!

Hi There,

over the weekend I downgraded to 2.0.6. It didn't solve the problem.
Maybe it's the hdmi port. Is there anyway to test it?

Kind regards

Do you have the possibility to try your 3D files with another player?

Because your BD player uses the disc and the himedia needs the 3D files in .iso format. So if there is a problem with the file itself, that won't change after a replacement of the himedia or any other similar player.

So that's a point we should check before. And do you use the intern player from the himedia? (wrapper with kodi or over the data explorer)

Because the Kodi player isn't really good for 3D on himedia :/

Maybe a coincidence but it's conspicuous that both of the complainants have PROJECTORS, tho' different brand and type, but regardless it's still suspicious.

I've checked with some 3D demos OFW 2.0.6 and they were fine on my H6400 active 3D TV.

Hi Eumel,

I did a crosscheck. Therfore I used the same HDMI-cables, the same ports... same everything except for the Player.

- on the q5 pro I used the internal player (MediaCenter) with auto resolution and framerate switch. Since I wanted to rule out sync problems through 3:2 Pulldown or Upscaling. To open the files I used the data explorer. Kodi is not involved at all.

- on the RPi3 (running the latest LibreElec) I used th kodi player, since it does it all (24p, original Resolution and frame-packing).

Afterwards I tried it with two more ISOs. The result is always the same:
Playback on the RPi3 is flawless, where the q5pro produces a flicker on the right glass.

Both of you have Onkyo AVRs, well nothing to be sure of, but just sayin'.

Maybe you can try:

Get the AVR out of the line and connect the Box directly to the Projector for testing.

If the problem seems to be the AVR, than it's worth to see upon some settings in it that may possibly effect this issue.

And a third tip: set the resolution on the HiMedia Box to fix 1080p before the 3D blayback happens. AND be sure that HDMI Auto Adaptation is OFF in the Settings-More menu.

Hi DrDoOm,

there are some helpful tips from Mount81 you want to check first.

For me the Optoma projector were causing my problems but it doesn't work with the bluray player either. In your case it seems just the himedia is causing these problems. Have you tried watching some 3D content in side-by-side? You can search in YouTube. Just search for "3D Sbs" but afterwards you have to switch to side by side mode in your projector 3D settings to get a 3D picture. If the flickering occurs in this case, there must something going wrong by combining the pictures.

Hope we find a solution soon because i know how annoying this must be for you.

@Mount81:

Thanks for the tipps. I will try them over the weekend.

I think by now HDMI Auto Adaptation is On.
What's the benefit of setting resolution to 1080p, when I use the auto resolution switch?

Will report back after the weekend.

You mean you use the auto resolution patch? This one? Maybe also the auto freque switching patch? Cause these all can be -possibly- the cause of the issue. I would suggest to uninstall them or -even more suggested- do a clean firmware install for testing. (I have seen some of these patches doing rather strange behavior already when installed on my Box before, tho' this doesn't mean 100%-ly those're to blame, but it's highly suggested to do the test without those installed.)

Hi There,

so last weekend I tested several settings, without any improvement.

What did I do?

- First of all I uninstalled the  resolution and the auto freque switching patch.
- checked that HDMI Auto Adaptation is turned off.
- Then got the A/V-Receiver out of the way by connecting the q5 pro directly to the projector.
- still flickering of the right glass in three different movies.

Next tries:

- Clean Install of OFW 2.0.6
- q5 pro directly connected to projektor
- still flickers

- Changed the HDMI-Port on the Projector.
- still flickers.

Next try with the Rpi3 directly to projector using the same HDMI cable as with the q5 pro
- works, without a flaw

Got an Idea:
- switch back to the q5 pro
- played saving private ryan - a 2D Movie
- told the projector to simulate 3D
- NO flickering.

So I assume it's problem with the q5 pro.
