1.2.9.1. FIRMWARE FOR A10 FIXES REMOTE CONTROL PROBLEM
« on: June 18, 2018, 09:13:48 PM »
I have asked on egreats official forum for a step by step way of updating to this firmware. Rita does not say how to do this, only on different pages, what i need to know is does this update need unzipping when you put the firmware onto a USB. I have downloaded this firmware to a usb formatted to fat32 and tried the update by sticking a pin in the rst hole and watching the green android logo doing its thing.

I tried this 3 times and it does not work, either in usb2 or usb3. i get the feeling i need to unzip the thing. am i right in this, if so can someone tell me how to unzip this file when i copy it from my windows 10 laptop to a usb, Now i have never unzipped a file before, when i copied this file to a usb, it only has 1 item, rita says it should have four items reading her forced recovery page. Any help would be welcome guys.

Hi Mike,

Yes, you have to unzip the file you downloaded from Egreat. This will leave you with 4 files (bootargs.bin, fastboot.bin, recovery.img, update.zip).
I'm strictly a Mac user, but I'm pretty sure you only have to right click the file and choose 'extract all'. Then copy those 4 files onto an empty usb drive.
Make sure it's formatted fat32.

Turn the Egreat off by the switch on the back. Plug the usb drive in (the usb 2.0 port should work), and press a paperclip or toothpick down the reset hole. You should feel the button in there depress. Hold the button down and turn the Egreat on. Keep holding the button until the green Android robot thingy appears, and then you can release the button. Don't touch anything (like the remote) and just let it do its thing. It will update and then reboot. It can take a while.

I know it can be frustrating not knowing what to do and not being able to get any help. Good luck, it's a pretty simple operation once you've done it once.

Hi Copperhead. thanks for the quick response, its the unzipping thats messing me up, never had to unzip a file before, i downloaded the firmware to my c drive, i highlighted that file and right clicked, and i have an option to extract all, which i press, and i think it unzipped 4170 items, so that takes a good while, when it is finished, it gives 3 more options replace files, skip files, and decide where each file goes. So that has me completely stumped, i probably chose the wrong option.

When i downloaded the file to my c drive, i double clicked it, and i think the four files came up, only the update file said it was compressed, so i right clicked on that file and got the option to extract all, which i clicked, and like before, it takes a while, 4170 items are extracting i suppose, when it is finished, i get the same options again, repalce, skip, and i decide where each file goes, they are the options, and i do not know what any of that means.
when i pick one, i now have 2 update files where their was only 1 before extracting, so that was a surprise. i tried doing all this on my c drive first, then i just copied the un extracted files to the usb and then extracted them, either way, none of it seems to work when i put it in the egreat and keep the pin pressed on the reset button, i get the green android logo come up, it takes a minute or so for that to run its coarse, but it does not shut the box off and restart it, it just goes straight to starting off as normal, i left it like that for over 2 hours, thinking it was updating, but it was not updating at all.

So as you can see from my convoluted statements above, i do not think i am doing this right at all, i tried youtube to see if anyone had done this, but its mostly for updating a ps4, which is no good for me, all the videos about unzipping files were easy enough, just like you described copperhead, but all them options when i finished the extracting process, did not come up on the tutorials. i honestly thought it would be a simple enough process, what the hell am i doing wrong, this is driving me nuts, your description of how to do this is so straight forward and easy to follow, but for some reason it is not working for me, i doubt it would be anything to do with egreats update file i suppose.

OK, the extract all command obviously unpacks everything. Just double click on the file. If you now have the 4 files I named earlier, copy them to the usb drive. Don't unzip the update.zip file, just put it and the other three over to the usb drive.

I tried that first off, and no luck, that is why i was asking on egreats forum if i should unzip it first, one of the posters over there said you have to unzip the file, so i tried unzipping it, and still no luck, so i just tried again as you described, copy over the four files without unzipping, and the same result, the box goes through the motions with the green android logo, and then just starts the box straightaway, no turning off and restarting like it would do after an update.

Well would you believe it, i just took a look at the firmware version, and it actually says firmware version 1.2.9.1 that was a surprise, every other time i did this and checked the firmware version it said 1.2.9.0. I really want to check now if it is correct, by turning the box off and seeing if the red light stays on, but i do not want to jinx it, but as it says the new firmware version, i might,

I turned the box off, and the red light was on, i started it up again with the remote. Copperhead, you are a lifesaver mate, thank you, i have been up all night trying to sort this bloody thing out. I doubt if this version was ever going to be an OTA update, as they did not have it in their official list of firmware updates. thanks again.
