Hi guys,

I really like the H8 and the job you did to customize the ROM. But I also found a few problems with it. First thing is that some videos are jerking. I initially thought that this is because I am streaming via UPNP but it isn't. I figured out that the HiMedia mediaplayer does a good job (used a local/USB file) but Kodi 15.2 for the same file not. I think you need to know the issue but it is very annoying once you noticed that it is jerking.  For it seems so that this is a FPS problem because I see that for some but not for all videos. Videos with 23,976 FPS are definitely jerking from time to time (seems to be a Kodi 15 issue for some FPS).

Second problem is that I am a MAC user and the box does neither read OSX nor ExFat filesystems (more a feature request).

Third problem is that most videos (primary tested MKV + 1080p) are jerking when streaming by UPNP. I figured out that this can be improved a lot by adding an advanced Kodi config as follows:

http://kodi.wiki/view/HOW-TO:Modify_the_video_cache
(I played around with the buffer sizes and I think UPNP is now much better for me)

<advancedsettings>
  <network>
    <buffermode>1</buffermode>
    <cachemembuffersize>157286400</cachemembuffersize>
    <readbufferfactor>20</readbufferfactor>
  </network>
</advancedsettings>

Except for that (and it does not make too much sense) I have the feeling that the videos run more smoothly when using the wireless interface (LAN interface is connected straight to a switch which is also connected to the UPNP server).

Last one is that I see problems with my HDMI devices. Seems so that the device causes HDMI-CEC problems (is it possible to block the CEC channel?).

Cheers

So you are saying that H8 shows artefacts too in kodi? Like zidoo x6 does.
Is your way explained here a definate solution?
Anyway, in a way i'm happy now its not a fault from zidoo

I think artefacts and jerking are very different things.

UPnP support (jerking) will be improved in Kodi as the firmware developed. In general everything plays well already in Himedia player.

I noticed that with the standard player going back and forth with video files subtitles are no longer in sync and happened to someone I apologize again for my English are Italian and use a translator.

I already tested a lot of videos (local and UPNP) and I have seen artefacts but definitely not too often (Kodi and Himedia player) - not a big deal I would say.

Kodi 15.2 is jerking too much at the moment. For me it improved a lot by using WLAN, disabling MediaCodec (hardware acceleration) and enabling the caches as described before but this is not 100% fixing the issue - it is still stuttering for a lot of mkvs (not only at 23/24 FPS).

Good news is that the HiMedia Mediaplayer / eHomeMediaCenter (UPNP) is doing a good job for me (configured 1080p/60Hz and enabled 1080p24Hz / optical out). Did not see any stuttering for mkv movies up to now (local & upnp). One exception are a few TV series. The mkvs are 1080p, H264, 23,9762.. FPS and are stuttering using Kodi and the mediaplayer. VLC (MAC) and my WD TV Life are rendering these without any problem.

Jerking is the video stuttering.

Artifacts are blocky features caused by compression. In the Q5 vs X6 images posted on the Kodi forum, there is a big difference between smooth blocks of colour on Q5 and blotchy blocks of colour on X6. H8 doesn't have this problem.

Thanks!

It should be in sync. How far out is it? How is the H8 connected to TV/amp.

What version of Netflix are you using?

The pre-installed H8 Netflix is here: http://www.mediafire.com/download/ea9dr76do7j5z9b/Netflix_3.11.1_build_4421_4421.apk

Noted and will be reported to Himedia.

Hi, I just got my box HIMEDIA H8 and I immediately updated the firmware with this "HMD-1.0.7 FUTEKO".

From the first tests I found the following problems with my box:
  • playback of DVD-Folder and DVD-ISO do not work (HiMedia player)
  • several times, playing returns the "ErrorCode -1010" (HiMedia player)
  • MKV file playback is choppy (Kodi)
  • the audio is out of sync (Kodi)

Sorry for my English (made in google  :-[).

Hello everyone and thanks for all the support you offer. I apologize if my English is not perfect .
Having said that I am a happy owner of this TV box and I updated the firmware . I am having trouble with the simple addon IPTV client . Kodi not let me install it . It is not present among the PVR addon . You are having this problem ? I do not know how to install . Thanks for your help

Hi Nitro,

Are you able to see any PVR Addons.? I think that are disabled in this version of the Firmware..

Mort.

Hello MortUK  and thanks for the reply! I think so too! Now I downloaded from the official website Kodi 15.2RC2 and the problem is solved!

Do you get the same problem if you use the pre-installed Netflix? You'll need to uninstall the Play Store version first.

Thanks for the info.

1. I see this too. Also with MX Player. Bug info passed to Himedia.
2. What files? Is there a pattern to it?
3. Noted. Kodi performance will continue to be improved.
4. What files? Audio codecs?

You can install any version of Kodi, but note that with anything other than the Himedia version you'll lose some video decode performance and the 7.1 audio options.
